50 yards, shot placement was perfect…..imagine that
. Through the lead shoulder exiting out behind off shoulder. Shot the top of the heart.

So I left out some story. Hunter in arkansas killed what would’ve been an 8 but had no brows. Nice public land 2 yr old.
Dj is hunting nwr with the bow currently and I’m sure Hunter is in a tree filling tags like usual.
Got up and dropped my deer off at the taxidermist house and put in the back of his truck at 5:30. Left and headed to the NWR to hunt wood ducks for the opener of second split. Shooting time came and I heard not saw any birds. Heavy overcast and they started 5-10 minutes after. Was still dark in the woods and I picked off a limit with Pearl loving every second.
I guess I will go with Gavin and his boy to run lines when he gets out the woods.

Todays report if you read couple post up I went duck hunting and limited out on wood ducks. Went to the taxidermist to get a score and age on my buck. Was told my deer scored 138 and he was at least 4 years old which I already knew cause we passed on him around 15 times last year.
Arrived back at the camp and got in boat with Gavin and his boy Cam. We caught 4 catfish and pulled the lines up and the boat.
That’s a half a drum and not a bucket.
dj hunted till 12 on the refuge and didn’t see a deer. Dj left for work tomorrow so I’m solo now. Text Hunter this evening snd he didn’t see a deer….wtf. Chilled at the camp and cooked pork chops for me and a fellow camper/friend.
Got 5 of us hunting ducks in the morning but I was told someone hunted my hole this morning so probably won’t be epic but could be. We will see.

Took Blake, Jamie, Gavin snd his son Cam to a duck hole. We killed 14 with Cam killing his first 3 wood ducks. Pearl did as expected and a great time was had by friends that only see each other during hunting season.
we plucked the ducks and ate leftover pork chops for lunch. Blake and Jamie hunt to the property south of me. We decided to hunt our properties, do a card pull and get in. Got a phone call and Blake said I got some bad news. About 4-5 days ago he shot at a good 8pt outside his ears and only found some belly hairs. Today he found buzzards and a buck he’d been passing on that needed another year. Split g2 8pt. He was upset and I assured him that it’s ok as we all will make a mistake here and there. I’m lucky to have a neighbor “on the program” and y’all have seen the nice bucks we have killed over the last 5 years because of him. And I told him that. Also told him at least you got his rack and have an endless supply of toothpicks. Lol the jokes won’t stop! I also told him that’s his buck for next year. He can kill this years shooter but he already killed next years so I’m expecting a knitted sweater next hunting season.

So recap of evening hunt. In the 40’s light nne wind. Deer started pouring out early around 4:40 onto the field. I was hunting the big field stand. Seen a total of 18 w one being a 2 yr old buck. Heard a couple ducks leave my pond at dark. We got real cold weather coming next week, talking about 16 for a few days. Yeah I know it ain’t shit for up there, but down here it’s gonna be cold as a witches tit in a steel bra. Duck hunting in the morning.

Well went w another camp buddy Lee, he had his little boy and girl with him and wanted to check out a spot on the river. We seen maybe 10 wood ducks fly. Heavy clouds threatening to rain and started to sprinkle at 7:30 and is currently raining now and will rain till tomorrow morning. Helped him work on some decoys and he cooked a full breakfast. Lee has to drop his kids off to the X and picking up a couple things for me to try my own Cajun cooked ducks. Guess I will chill today and cook while drinking some bud lights. Got my sidekick with me…..all is good here.
It’s supposed to get in low to mid teens for a few days so if everything freezes up the river will be money. Hopefully the bell pepper heads come in. Tomorrow I’m taking the gang to the refuge so we should get limits of wood ducks.

Still raining and won’t stop for another 12 hours. My mind is telling me to jump in the stand and kill a good buck. My heart is telling me don’t kill another one so my boys have a better chance snd to take pearl duck hunting.
In the meantime, I’m trying to cook ducks like Gavin, we will see they need another hour and a half before they get tender.

Pouring down raining this morning so I opted out of hunting. It has slacked up now and I’m in the deer stand. It’s almost 10 am
