Absolute disaster of a morning. I'm not sure where my bad deer hunting karma comes from, but it's about as bad as it gets...
Had my #1 buck walk by where I should have been yesterday evening, so I'm all pumped to get on that ridge this morning. Pull in and get a pic of him in the Corner Pocket headed N, so I wait 15 minutes to let him move on out. I get packed and am just about to roll out when my wife calls and says our oldest has pinkeye and it's not a good day for her to call off, so I load up knowing full well I'm about to leave the best conditions I've seen on the farm based on the last 36 hours of pics. Sure enough, I don't even get out of the property and get this pic of him 20 yards from where I'd planned to sit, which means I'd have called an audible and sat the Corner Pocket to avoid spooking him off the ridge.
So I go home, check on Kaydence, then head behind the house. Climb up, get situated, look at my bow and my peep is straight vertical in the string. Then it's not in my string...
So I climb down, go back to the house, reinstall my peep, go back to the stand, settle in and my phone vibrates. Borderline shooter in front of my stand in the Corner Pocket.
Now I'd probably pass that deer, but it's also the biggest deer I'd have had in bow range and I know my neighbors will shoot him, plus I'm ready for duck season, so I'd have at least picked up my bow!
Deer hunting is stupid. Remember that. Oh, and I've seen 5 so far, including a really nice 8 will 1" brows. He'd have been dead with better brows. Deer hunting is still stupid...
