Yesterday's track was strange. Two minutes from my drive and people that I know of. Deer had gond 1/2 mile w/lots of blood loss already. Blood going across this state route was phenomenal! I knew landowner from a track ten + years ago. Got us permission and Maxx took off across a road, and up the bank. Deer bedded down almost immediately (3 times in 15 yd area). Deer done a crazy "clover leaf" pattern in that area. At the end of that area was a scrape. After doing probably 8 loops in the area with no lock-down from Maxx, I went back to the scrape. It was fresh and had quite a bit of blood in it. (Peroxide does not lie).
My guess is 80+ % alive and back on cam in 3-5 days~~3 weeks at most.
When I first seen the scrape, I was afraid the track was over. But I just can't let go of a track until every option is exhausted.

Tonight's track was wild! Shot with a .350. Deer hit the ground and started thrashing. Hunter unloads gun, deer jumps up and runs off! He lost blood, so called us in. Maxx blew past last blood and locked on pretty good. We got right up along a freeway for a minute... came around a corner and there was an alive deer having problems getting up. Of course Maxx Dogg was jumping at him like spider man. Happened so damn fast... tracked him another 1/4 mi and seen him staring at us again from 15 yds away. Maxx chased it for another 1/4 mi and deer went up a steep hill.... hunter said Maxx Wins! Let's go home! Damn thing is alive. Deer did prolly 1.25 miles total. Gooo Boy Maxx!

I had that happen twice when I first started hunting the hills of SE Ohio. Learned that shooting down hill my point of aim was not low enough. So I would hit them high. It would be enough to shock the spine and drop them, but not kill them. Once they got past the shock, they'd jump up and run away. Both deer I killed later in the week and was able to learn from it. That was shooting pumpkin balls.

Wednesday morning track. 12 ga slug. Dropped deer, jumped back up and ran. Maxx blew thru last blood for about 150 yards. Came out of the thicket, saw a deer in a little thicket... we fist bumped continued on to the deer to find out it was not the right deer! Told maxx no, pointed to our blood trail and he took right back off from the carcass. (Whew!)...Another 100 yd we came to fence with no permission. I told the hunter maxx said the deer crossed the fence. Hunter questioned it... he took Maxx, I jumped fence, And came back with 3 leaves that had blood on them....
That's almost a find..... But honestly I believe the dear is alive.

Not my track...but a nightmare for sure.

Tracking friend was called out. Track was 16 hrs old. After a distance, track took off near a road where the deer was eventually found. Problem is: Carcass was 10' from the road~~ and the antlers were already cut off! Bases big as pop cans!
Probably see more about this one on line. Word is being put out to recover them.

I know I'm supposed to know better. So don't ask....🤣
Got all wound up and shot a small 10pt. Fun as hell, deer everywhere and I shot him through liver and some gut. Deer ran off about 80 yds and did a nose dive. Waited like 40 minutes and looked for arrow. (Log pile behind deer). Go to look for blood and it starts in 20-25 yds. I keep on walking and there he lays! Wow... lil ground shrink but hey, it was fun! Pull out my camera and get 5-6' from it and he decides he ain't going for all this shit and he fuggin jumped up and took off! I about pissed myself. Watched him go another 80-90 and get wobbly. I backed out and we went to knocking on doors. Got permission and waited until morning. Maxx showed us he was dead in the 5th bed. And yes, it died right in front of the guys stand...🤣
