I had the chance at 7 month old hens this week hatched from my own chickens I gave to My buddy when I moved....the wife said it's not the same and wanted to start over.... you know how it goes. It's times like these that makes it easier for her to look the other way when I drag stupid shit home lol

Well I’m about done w raising quail, have about 10 left. Just hatched out some chickens, we set 24 eggs and got 15 Dee dees. Probably half will be roosters and will get processed around 4 months old. Will keep one or two roosters so I won’t have to get fertilize eggs.

Kids in TN are homesteading and want to raise meat chickens. Apparently a 'Chicken Tractor' is the tool needed to keep'em safe and secure.

Last couple trips thru I built it ground up. Made so food and water can be loaded from outside and it can be moved by the DIL very easily with the four tires (one can be chocked).

Chicken tractor is the only way to roll for meat birds. Best part is it can be as simple or as elaborate as you want to make it. Good stuff.

The first batch is processed, they leaned alot ... everything went fine and they got ~150# after processing them all way from turning them off to bagging. They didn't like the overall health of the meat chickens as they grew and going with a slower growing meat strain with the next batch..

What do they mean by the overall health of the birds? They smell, look gross, but they eat, drink and put the most pound of meat per pound of feed of any breed of chicken in the shortest amount of time. That's why the factory farms use them.

Anything slower growing will take more feed and not be as economical nor as tender. Just saying there's a reason fried chicken wasn't a thing until the cornish cross became popular, virtually all chicken recipes from the great depression or older are stewing, braising or other slow cook method for tough meat.
