Our 2019 Chevy Silverado developed a transmission shudder a little over 3 weeks ago. It would most often happen around 48 and 62 mph at steady speeds. Engine and power train warranty was 60K and we were at 73K, convenient. Spent several days on the phone with GM customer service and clearly got the impression they knew of the problems, class action lawsuit and all. We also were led to believe they were going to be willing to help us out. Dropped it off and almost a week and a half later we finally picked it up last Tuesday.
They did some “diagnostics” on it and the recommendation was to do a flush and replace the transmission fluid, $487
. We called the GM customer service person we had been talking with and were flat out told it was a maintenance issue and they would not be helping with the cost. They further stated that since it was out of warranty if this didn’t solve the issues that we would have to take care of any transmission repairs on our own. Clearly a different tune than what they were saying before we paid for the flush to be done.
So far it seems to have taken care of the shudder but we also haven’t driven it much since Tuesday. Should know more after driving it this weekend. It may end up at a dealership again if it comes back, on the used car lot. I’ve always driven GM vehicles and just sold my 2000 Silverado with over 340K miles on it. They used to be reliable. Clearly with lowering their power train warranty from 100K they know there’s problems, they just continue to sell them that way.
