Morning 6: Went back to the same place alone and stood next to a different tree. About 30 minutes after first light I heard a deer walking in. A small lone doe popped out at 30 yards, perfectly broadside and level with me. I slowly drew back with my arrow squeaking on the rest. Somehow she...

Sat there for 2 hours of squirrels. We set up 30 yards from some corn I scattered a few days before. Doe season for bows, buck only for rifle. Brother was fidgeting all over the place and couldn’t figure out the whole sit still and be quiet thing [emoji23]. About 30 minutes before dark we...

Evening 5: Taking my brother out for his first time tonight. Hunting giles, first time hunting. I’ll have my bow for does, I’ll let him shoot with the rifle if we see a decent buck.

Yeah I have pretty bad astigmatism so last time I tried contacts they were way too uncomfortable for hunting trips but that was 5 years ago. Time to try again. I’m only 22 so can’t get the surgery until my eyes are consistent for a couple years. Definitely looking forward to that!

Afternoon 4, didn’t hunt, morning 5, didn’t hunt. Might get out tonight. Takeaways from the doe: 1. I resharpened the kudu I’d used on the bull, it may not have been sharp enough because that was the first time It didn’t get a full pass through. 2. Quartering shot. I thought my angle was...

Welp. Dog was excited by blood but was too afraid to walk once outside of the electric fence (not my dog, little white and brown thing). Walked the whole area behind houses leading up to road and didn’t see the doe. Gonna wander around some more. This shit sucks. Shot looked good, angle...

Good blood for 100 yards, she did a tight 10 yard circle then no more blood that I could find. Time to take the dog for a walk...

Georgia Day 4: Hunting the stand behind my moms house. It has been 50-60 degrees at night all week, it was 29 when I got in the stand this morning. About 45 minutes after light a small fork popped out for a second 40 yards to my left. I grunted at him and he came back ten minutes later. About...

Georgia Day 2: Hunted a huge ravine with the rifle in the morning. Didn’t see shit. Did some still hunting/ calling then sat a creek bottom in the afternoon. Didn’t see shit. Georgia Day 3: Morning Torrential downpours all night long, still raining steady when I got up. I grabbed the rifle...

Afternoon 1, Georgia: Spent the whole day building shit in my moms new house but got out for the last three hours of light on the big farm. The whole area is hardwoods in steep North Georgia hills. I had found a small trail along the edge of the bass pond down beneath the house back in turkey...

Last Sunday was the last day of the season. I went back out and only ran into one deer. Nothing came out on the meadow that night. Just flew down to Georgia for my moms wedding so time to shoot some whitetails!

I could see Mitchell standing there looking completely defeated. I snuck down to him. He’d shot at a forkhorn but was fairly certain his lighted nock had flown right beneath it. He hadn’t had time to range and head guessed 30 but it was about 45 at a steep angle. We walked down to look for...

We woke up early on Sunday and got to the trailhead before first light. My buddy had hunted 20 days already this fall and had yet to fling an arrow. He works his butt off training but has had very little success the last couple years. I kind of ran the game plan and decided we should just...

Weekend two of the season was much better. A buddy sent me to another wilderness area he’d heard of people having some success in. I skipped the morning hunt on Saturday because I didn’t want to repeat the weekend before and drove two hours out there. There was another car when I got to the...

Late archery season started two weekends ago for blacktail. Weekend one I picked a spot on a map in a wilderness area in the cascades and hiked in. What I didn’t realize was the area was way steeper than I thought and had fallen trees everywhere from an old burn. The soil was so loose and...
