    Turkey mount decision

My personal opinion is go for the poses where feathers are more laid back. Full Strut mounts seem to collect more dust and in my own experience are harder to maintain. I have generic walking pose similar to Big Slams above and to be honest it has been so much easier to take care of then my other...

    2015/2016 Goals

Well since I am fairly new to Ohio and this will be my second season: 1. Learn the patterns of the property I do have to hunt and try to find a few more places local to archery hunt 2. Potentially fill my first Ohio archery tag (hopefully on one of these famed Ohio monsters) 3. Try to get out...

Lets See Some 2015 Velvet Pics

Ah ok I grew up in 2D and hunted 2C a lot than prior to moving to Ohio last year lived 2F (Bradford, PA) for a while. Western PA is very underrated when it comes to whitetail hunting. To stay true to the theme here are a few shots of bucks from my brothers property in Armstrong County and the 2...

    Fng

I would put Public land PA hunting as probably one of the most challenging hunting ventures one could attempt. The deer are a different breed because all the pressure from hunting. The one in your avatar on the far left was that from PA? The large deer always go off grid during archery and you...

    Judging genitics vs injury

In my experience it seems to be more of a genetic thing than an injury related (which makes sense honestly). It seems to spread fairly quick in the areas where I see this as well not sure if that is because the few are tending a lot of does or what but just my general experience. Typically when...

Welcome.....its nice to see another western PA representative around these parts. What counties do you hunt and is it mostly private or do you hunt PA public lands? Those bucks in your picture look like very nice examples of PA whitetail.

    DIY Ohio hunt

I live in NE Ohio and besides the general "go to wayne" comment the actual hunters I have talked to who seem to do a majority of their hunting on public land seem to rave about Woodbury and Salt Fork. Not sure if they are trying to send me on a wild goose chase or what but I will probably be...

    Turkey harvest numbers by county

Where I used to live in Western PA was heaven on earth for turkey hunting. There used to be literally 100's of turkey per farm with every field maintaining at least one flock. For years it was a hidden secret then a lot of guys start showing up for about 3 seasons (2003-2006). In 2004 the PA...

    Turkey harvest numbers by county

    (2) of (54)............I feel pretty accomplished. I have never realized the difference between Ohio and PA Harvest. My guess would be it is accredited to the lack of public land as well as just a general observation the lack of people who actually hunt in the state but I am just surprised at...

    Team 2

Really enjoyed this as it gave me a little more drive to push out the last few weeks of season. Congratulations to us as a team in that I feel we were all quite successful this year. I had a great first season in Ohio and first season in participating in this forum's contest hopefully next year...

    Thoughts for Sunday

Be glad you did. Hot, Humid, Mosquitos, and some fresh poison ivy I would honestly say was one of the worst days of hunting I have every had. Wish I would have stayed home.

    Turkey hunting for Dummy's

I look at turkey hunting as a mathematic calculation (i.e. algorithm). Each factor in a hunt can be assigned a variable. Each variable maintains a certain weighting (percent) of the overall outcome. So lets say "Y" = Success/Harvest and "A-E" = the following (these are not all the variables...

    Thoughts for Sunday

Option 2 sounds like the best bet to me (depends on how far you define as close). At least than you can say you made a valiant attempt but didn't have to spend $50+ dollars in gas to just come back empty handed. Unless your heart is bound determined to get a turkey then Option 3 but I would be...

Mind helping out a non-resident currently hunting in Ohio?

Reports from PA and NY from friends say it has been terrible as of late. I am going to blame it on the somewhat early spring and the significant increase in temperatures as of late. Gotta remember turkeys don't know days or months so I am assuming things like weather have a large influence on...

In Pa it is legal for fall.....I have actually participated a few times in said activities. Its a very unique experience and is definitely a lot more effective than just a person trying to find/bust a flock up.
