I think the problem is for years the buckeyes were way overrated and overhyped. The Buckeye block O marketing machine likes it that way. So they would look awesome early and everyone would get their hopes up and talk smack, then the bucks would shit the bed against a cupcake like Michigan St, Penn St, Purdue, or Iowa. If they didn't and managed to make it to the big time, they would do something like lose by 20+ in back to back championship games, or roll a zero in a NC playoff game. There's only so many times that a person can swallow the hook before they get gunshy and become skeptical. It's only natural.
With that said, I didn't watch the game but did watch the team stats during the game. Yes it was a top 24 team, and they did win by 20. However, to come out of the first quarter with only a FG and 50 total yards to show for it especially when they got two turnovers should make any person cock their head in wonder. A quick score on a bomb pass to start the 2nd only to have it answered by a dominating drive down the field for a TD should also cause room for question. They ended up winning by 20 after wearing down State. First you can't have a first quarter like that against a NC caliber team, you have to capitalize on every opportunity. If you don't you will fail, and you can't make stupid mistakes if you do they will make you pay. 28 of the points that clemson put on Bama last year in the NC game was bamas fault. Stupid mistakes against a great QB who made them pay. Second, there is no wearing down a NC team to put 20 on them late, they usually have the depth to prevent that.
The bucks have an awesome team this year. Talent-wise not as good as years past, however. Day is an awesome coach and I like how his team is running. I've said for years that urban was killing potential and the bucks needed a players coach. I look for the bucks to do some great things under day in the coming years, you can see it already.
