MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Officials within the Methodist LeBonheur Healthcare System say they are nearly out of ICU beds and they’re extremely concerned about the on-going COVID-19 outbreak of the delta variant.

“If we do not change the course that we are headed to, we are headed toward our darkest hours,” Dr. Shailesh Patel, Methodist Olive Branch Hospital Chief Medical Officer said.

Dr. Shailesh Patel, Chief Medical Officer for Methodist Olive Branch Hospital says in the entire Methodist network of 5 Mid-South hospitals, there are currently only 3 open ICU beds.

Changing every day -
Serious question. Have you ever seen the kids movie "Chicken Little"?

The only common here is that the sky is always falling. If you say this every day, one day you might be right. (The YOU is not directed at you, just sayin)

When my house creeks or pops, I don't think it is collapsing kind of thought. Even though we all know it will some day. But today, I'm going to enjoy it for what it is and maintain this box the best I can.

And still the southern border is wide fucking open. Until Biden administration closes the border and stops allowing thousands of illegals across and infiltrating our country with illegals carrying covid, i will believe nothing they say. They are obviously not concerned about the health of the general public.

I honestly believe this is an invasion, a deliberate attack on our nation by those currently in charge of the border. IDK what it will take to wake this country up. I'm mean really, where are all the patriots of this country, and how much more will we all stand?

Sorry, a little rant, and I really try my best to mind my own business, but man it's super hard to do!

The Biden administration is looking at all aspects of their power too get the remaining deplorables into getting the shot…. Interstate travel being one, air travel, employers mandating the shot and Proof of it. Big business is looking for guidance on the mandatory shot from them as well. VA, Military, Federal employees, all mandated too get it or show proof of why you should be exempt from it. If you don’t get it, they’ll make it such a PIA for you that you’ll either get it, or just quit. Weekly testing at your cost, on your time.
Insurance companies getting on board with not covering Covid related expenses if you haven’t gotten the shot. They’ll just keep tightening that noose around your neck until the shot is taken, or until people have had enough of their BS…. Mid-term campaign ads should start popping up here after the new year. We’ll see what happens in the interim…..

Covid-19 infection

Fenofibrate also demonstrated efficacy against the newly emergent alpha and beta variants of SARS-CoV-2 in the study.

A research team led by the University of Birmingham and Keele University in the UK has found that a licensed oral drug, fenofibrate, and its active form, fenofibric acid, can substantially reduce SARS-CoV-2 infection in human cells in the laboratory.

Approved in various countries, fenofibrate is being used for the treatment of conditions such as increased cholesterol and fatty substance levels in the blood.

Fenofibrate decreased Covid-19 infection by up to 70% at concentrations that are safe and attainable with its standard clinical dose, the University of Birmingham noted.

Led by the San Raffaele Scientific Institute in Italy, the research was conducted in partnership with the University of Copenhagen in Denmark and the University of Liverpool, UK.

In the study, researchers analysed a panel of presently licensed drugs, including fenofibrate, to detect candidates that can interrupt angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) and Spike interactions.

Fenofibrate was selected and assessed for efficacy in reducing infection in cells in the laboratory with the use of the SARS-CoV-2 original strains isolated last year.

Furthermore, additional unpublished findings showed that the drug worked against the newly emergent SARS-CoV-2 variants such as the Alpha and Beta variants.

The university added that further research is underway to analyse the drug’s efficacy against the Delta variant.

University of Birmingham School of Biomedical Sciences director of research Dr Farhat Khanim said: “The development of new more infectious SARS-CoV-2 variants has resulted in a rapid expansion in infection rates and deaths in several countries around the world, especially the UK, US and Europe.

“Whilst vaccine programmes will hopefully reduce infection rates and virus spread in the longer term, there is still an urgent need to expand our arsenal of drugs to treat SARS-CoV-2-positive patients.”

The team plans to commence clinical trials to evaluate fenofibrate in hospitalised Covid-19 patients.

The US’ Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel are currently progressing two trials of the drug in hospitalised subjects with Covid-19.
