I’d argue that the tables have turned and there’s more damage done by bowhunters nowadays. For sure more trespassing.
2019 Rut Report. What County? Conditions?

In some areas I totally agree. But the groups of 15-20 drivers walking road to road across everyone’s place, permission or not has nearly ceased. I’m not against the drives but at least include me, let me know so I can seated and ready on my place. I’ve literally had people walk up through my yard and stand at the property line. Wtf!? The damage done here by bow hunters are usually not locals. The locals work and push the limits day 1 &2 gun season. I love to drive, push, walk and usually do every year certain places, with permission of course.
No needs these days with modern bows and Camo. You can get in and out unnoticed.
Yeah, I honestly miss the days of deer drives with huge groups. That’s a good time!
I’ve been thinking about why the bucks were in the spot they were this year and just can’t figure it out. Went and walked the spot a couple of weeks ago and you couldn’t find a track and the ground still has acorns on the trail they used.
Things I know:
It is downwind of the main trail out in the CRP.
It overlooks a gorge that every buck walked over to the ledge to look into.
It’s close to the road but feels secluded, almost like an island.
90% of the deer I seen were bucks.
I had all day action.
Once rut was over, it was over.
This has grabbed my attention enough that I’ve thought about purchasing a camera to put up. But I fear they’ll stop using the area all together if I add anything. Seems like a real touchy spot. As it’s close to cover but pretty wide open in this little spot that’s only 30 by 40 yards. I listed a few reasons of why they would visit this spot, but I can’t find the bedding. There’s doe bedding a few hundred yards across the field/over the hill. But it’s so thick and nasty I don’t think a buck could get in and out of it. I crawled into it this year to try and bump deer to Michael and Jon, didn’t see any sign of bucks inside it, just around it.
Now would be a good time to go look around some more, but we can only use the property two weeks prior to the season and two weeks after the season. Otherwise we have to stay on designated hiking trails.
Just putting my mental ramble in writing, maybe someone will have an idea for me or hunt a similar set up. In the end, I don’t need to know why, just bugging me. It can’t be that simple, or can it?
