My nephew got his first bird today. Yesterday was a bust in the wind and cold. Perseverance paid off for him.

Went out this morning to scout with the 4 yo. The gobbler was higher on the hill and had some ladies with him. One flew down and took the normal stroll across postures that I am used to. Another hen started clucking and I assumed he was with her. I began to mimic her and she got upset. After calling back and forth she clammed up, I thought they had went out the other side of the woods. We hiked over to watch the other strut zone on the other side, no dice.

Packed up, walked out and drove around the farm looking for strutters. There he was, about where i normally set up, but on the far side of the pasture between patches of woods.

Gonna set up on him in the morning, hopefully the decoys will bring him into range.

I'll call some in the morning so he knows there's some ladies waiting on him and then clam up as he's not reacting to my calling once on the ground.

I plan on setting my hen decoys up at 25ish yards straight ahead and my Jake and gobbler decoy at around 20 and at an angle away from me. Be in while still plenty dark and he's hopefully asleep on the roost.

Had a great hunt with my oldest son both mornings...today was tough as Dad(I) called in two big gobblers to inside 20 yds on our second setup of the day...however they were on neighbors property! They saw our dekes but would not cut through the fence line.
We had a great chat about integrity, honesty and values as we sat there. He smiled at me and said I know we are doing (did) the right thing by NOT shooting. Proud Dad moment for sure!!

Gotta love those lessons. I had one a couple of years ago that came back. My daughter still calls it “her buck” 😂

Had another good time in the woods. No mess. Saw six gobblers, some hens and jakes. Didn’t launch any arrows. Tomorrow l will probably take a gun and I think Mason will too. That is a sure fire way to ending our bird sightings. I did get some more good video today.

Me and savannah struck out. And now I'm in a pissy mood. Went back in to the blind we hunted around noon yesterday and my fuggin camera is gone. So some cock head was in there last night after we left. Blind and decoys were still in the blind. So I'm gonna say it was someone trespassing for mushrooms. No one else has permission beside the neighbor hes older and he doesn't hunt much at all anymore.

No bird for us today. Seen 5 hens with no gobbler in tow...very little gobbling and the few we heard were way off. Heard one single shot. Never been much for hunting afternoons and evenings...probably done until tomorrow am...

Never been so prepared for a hunt. Cars packed, cameras charged, even have the coffee ready to auto start at 4:45am.

I’m taking a guy out tomorrow on his first hunt. He started watching Meateater a while back and decided he really wanted to give hunting a try. I let him film me a couple times last fall for deer as he was just getting interested and tomorrow he picks up a gun and we are going after it. Had 5 Toms gobbling like crazy Thursday AM and meant to get back out to that property this morning but got asked to film a youth hunt instead. Gonna try to put some birds to bed tonight and slip in somewhat close in the morning. If he gets his, my first recurve hunt will begin.

Good luck guys! Be safe.

I'll be out in the morning in Huron county, a buddy and I had a Tom and few jakes going this morning. I expect one of us will kill a bird tommorow, may flush one to the other after one of us shoots. Good luck to everyone.
