Things went about the way I expected today. Had birds roosted about 125 yards away. They dropped down and went away uninterested. Two hens came from them and sassed the decoy. Later 4 jakes came in and flirted with the decoy. Tyler left mid-morning and hooked up with a buddy and was able to help him call in a double beard Tom. I started working my way towards the house and enticed a couple gobbles out of 2 birds but they were only teasing me. Try again tomorrow.

I had 3-4 gobbling on the roost in different spots at one time or another. Military silence after fly down until about 7:45 when 2 separate gobblers got a little talkative. They played they game for a bit and I worked closer to them until they went silent again. Absolutely beautiful morning in the woods. I’ll take it for never having set foot in that spot before yesterday evening. Hopefully I’ll be able to take what I learned today and get closer to sealing the deal next time out. Congrats to all who got it done!

What an incredible day! Yesterday morning Cam and I hit the woods for his first turkey hunt. We saw several birds but nothing close enough to shoot. In the afternoon, Kenley joined us for her first hunt. We were working a bird out in an open field when Cam says “Dad, there is a gobbler right by us”! He passed the blind at 10 yards but wouldn’t stop. He and 5 hens fed out in the field for 45 min and then came right back past us! Kenley was able to put an arrow in him for her first gobbler! Kenley and Cam can’t stop talking about Kenley’s hunt. I couldn’t be more proud of both of them! This will surely be a day I will never forget!View attachment 100041View attachment 100042View attachment 100043

2 happy kids right there!

Birds didn’t wanna come up to our field and decoy set up. Took the game to them. Had one pretty fired up across the creek. Set up real quick with my buddy. Trying to get him his first bird. I didn’t like how exposed we were and I figured I had a few minutes for the Tom to come in so elected to put out the decoys real quick. Wasn’t quick enough. Got busted by a huge Tom with a big ol beard. He was coming in on a string and I messed it up.

Wasn’t my first mistake and won’t be my last. Congrats to all you who found success!

So yesterday morning went a lil something like this.
Woke up around a quarter till five put a pot of coffee on.Went out in garage lite up a cigarette, started sipping my coffee. Got a big ozark cup down of it. Walked over to my turkey bag/man bag. Opened it up realized I’m missing 3 or 4 custom strikers. Thought about going in and giving the kid a throat chop. 😂 Decided against that. If your a parent ya know shit like this happens. If you have a wife you know shit like this happens. The in famous whey have you seen my, I didn’t touch it. Well what the hell didnt ya touch I haven’t even said what.

So grab my gun. Finish the pot of coffee. Wasn’t impressed with the results of the coffee. One thing I miss that I haven’t had in a while is Speedway coffee. That shit make your heart beat like the first time you ever squeezed the trigger on a deer.

Anyhow get in car go to my spot get out walk 50 yards in to the woods look up first tree there’s a turkey in it. So I sit down this is about 620 am. No sooner than I sit down. Birds start gobbling everywhere around me. Mostly out in front and to the sides of me 150 yards or so away. I hit my call get a few responses or turkeys were just being turkeys gobbling on the roost. I’m going to flatter myself, they were responding to me.

So I set call down maybe ten minutes later I watch the Turkey I see roosted fly out of the tree away from me faster than a fifty dollar bill at a bar.

Around 7 am I decide to take a stroll. I get up walk about 15 yards. Yup another turkey flys off the roost. Coulda swore I heard it laugh at me. So I get in this gully start walking it’s more like a big ditch maybe ten yards wide and nothing can see me moving on the other side of it.

I crawl up to the top peak my head over it and see 4 toms and 2 hens 75 yards away across a creek. So I just lay there and watch them the hens eventually wonder off. But the Toms just stay there and strut for about an hour. All of them had a full fan two of them I actually saw there there beards. I woulda proudly served either of those two with a shot of number six. Anyhow I watch them . I coulda got out and around them and set up. Thing is I was wearing my tennis shoes . I woulda been soaking wet trying to get to them. It just wasn’t going to happen.

I I watch them strut in a fifty yard area for about an hour and they move on down around the bend just as I thought they would. In the hour plus I watched them one gobbled on time. None of them messed with each other was sorta weird. Maybe they were gay I dunno. I have my suspicions. Anyhow away they went.

So I get back down in the ditch/gully walk about 20 yards look over and see something shiny sticking out of the leaves. I walk over to investigate it’s a fishing pole and reel. Wtf it was doing there I have no clue. Can’t even make this shit up. So I pick it the top of the rod tip is broke. I take the reel off and move on. SCORE!! It’s a POS reel but hey maybe my kid can find away to fugg it up.

That was pretty much my day. I did kick one hen up. Other than that they were loud off roost. Shutdown when their feet hit dirt. Not a gobble for the rest the morning.

Get back to the house, wife tells me there were 4 turkeys between my house and the man cave. That’s how it goes tho. I’m in no hurry. Took the kid fishing didn’t catch a thing.

Fast forward today. Got up slammed a Powerade. Ate some reverse seared porterhouse steak left over from yesterday. Throw my stuff on grab my boots head out 545 am.

Got my boots today did the long walk to where the strut zone is. Go through the swamp yep you guessed last two steps I went up over my boots. Anyhow get sat down around 615 am. 619 it starts raining, 622 I hear some gobbles in the distance. 625 I start coughing, 630 I got to shit. Really a lot going on in this short amount of time. 751 I still got to shit. Haven’t heard a google since 622. Nothing is striating in front of me . My feet a soaked. I still haven’t hit my call. In theory I should have been done by 705 am. Yet here I am. Windy and overcast here. See what happens..

Mind numbingly boring this morning. Wait, there went a flock of Jakes and a small Tom across the field at 100 yards. Didn’t pay attention to me or the decoy at all.
On a different note: a nut gatherer has picked up on my position. He’s just sitting there staring at me..... and drooling.
Thats odd, Ive never seen @giles drool.

Kody stole my bird this morning! Lol

He was sitting about 75 yards to my left over a ride in the field. Gobbler came up behind me and made his way over to Kody’s decoy instead of mine. Heard the shot and was fired up!

Love those Jefferson County hills in the background! Congratulations!
