I have also wondered about the nutritional value. I think it was @Redhunter1012 that I was asking about then hens. I personally like chicken and hens more than morels.

I didn’t know about chick/hens for the first 30 years of those 46 but after learning about them I just never really found any. Probably walked right by them all the time in my early years.

I prefer the HOTW over all the wild shrooms. Nutritionally, they are one of the healthiest things that grow. I'm too lazy to look it up, but I think the amount of Vitamin D they have is staggering
Went and plucked the easiest to get to leaving plenty to hopefully grow more in future. Was going to cut that tall stump down but changed my mind on that. Lol
Going to fry up alittle more and blanch and freeze the rest after I get these dang beetle bugs out of them. Lol

Wish I was knowledgeable about mushrooms like some of you guys on here….these are some of what I found while walking the driveway today….woods behind the house are probably loaded but I have no idea which are edible and which are not.
The orange/yellow ones on the stump are chicken of the woods. Edible and delicious. The rest I don't know
I must say they’re every bit as delicious as morels.
Tonight’s mess and there won’t be any left. Lol

The first few are amanitas, poisonous, next 3 are as stated, chickens, very old & very young, next one not sure & the last one is honeys, edible with caution.
I saw 10 deer this morning from stand, all but one came within 20 yards of me. Had a nice adult doe at 20 feet when she looked away I started to draw, but she turned her head back straight before I got halfway, so I let down slowly while she turned away and started walking. Darn the luck. Saw a decent 8, too. When it got light, I saw these two patches of Chickens about 25 yards from my tree.
Last Sunday I walked Nancy to all of my stands so somebody will know where to find my corpse if something goes wrong. We walked within 50 feet of where these are. They were not there last sunday or one of us surely would have seen them. I did not kill a deer this morning, but I'm eating good tonight anyway.
There was a good bit more than I could see from stand. Two nice flushes just a few yards apart.

Mason brought these home along with a doe this morning. We will have a feast tomorrow.
Whenever I‘ve seen them I’ve never noticed any sign of anything gnawing on them. Just got my curiosity up….
