44 Mag. Whitetail Bullet Chioces

Well, I changed powders...from Accurate #9, that was producing 3" groups at 25 yards, to 2400 that's producing 1" groups at 25 yards. I'm glad I switched powders, as this type of accuracy was what I'm looking for, in a hunting load. I'm still shooting the same hard cast 240gr. SWC bullet. Now I'm ready for the Deer Gun Season! :smiley_bril: I might go as far as to carry this for close range shots on coyotes. :smiley_chinrub:

After getting my Ruger Super Redhawk sighted in, I put out a 2 liter bottle of water, stepped back quite a ways and took one shot. First shot, the bottle busted...at 57 yards. I'm very impressed with this handguns' accuracy.

Digging this back up. Have a quick question for those of you with more experience with the 44 than myself. I dont mind going out an buying more soft points if need be but I have 100 rounds of s&b semi jacketed hollow points in the safe not being used an wondered if they'd preform well enough to 75 yards out of my super Blackhawk. 90 percent of my shots wouldn't be over 45 yards but just in case id rather know. Thanks in advance fellas .

Not sure about a pistol but Hornady lever revolution do a great job out of my rifle
Those are the ftx hollows if i remember right. You have the velocity out of your rifle for sure but im unsure of a semi jacket out of my revolver. In my head I think they'll work just fine but figured id see if anyone else has tried it before. Thanks for your input!

Shot with a rifle but loaded to specs to use out of a handgun. My boy just killed his buck at 160 yards with a .44mag. With a 240 grain xtp. Weve killed a pile of deer with the .44 mag its my favorite round. Most shots have been under 100. I shot through two does killed they both around 50yrds with it a few years ago on accident. Went through one and the bullet was lodge in the hide of the second deer just making it through her ribcage. My favorite deer round.....if in question shoot a log and split it see what your round does. If they fragment to piece Id use a more solid bullet, but ull kill whatever you r shooting at 75yrds.

I don't like ftx vs xtps. Every deer I've shot with the ftx, has run farther than I've thought it should. Dead is dead and we've never lost a deer hit with either bullet but I feel like I say how the hell did it run so far after the ftx hits. And the ftx is out of a .450.....not a .44.
