Damn proud of both of them! 180* difference in the projects & interests, Wyatt wants nothing to do with 4-H once he gets out of Cloverbuds. Hoping to break him in next year or 2

Kaydence received a Superior and is headed to state with her woodworking project. My dad got to be her mentor. Chickens arrived last week and it's the heartiest bunch we've ever, so things are looking good on the livestock front.

Last weigh-in before fair is complete, what an adventure. Chomps is in (if he doesnt die - see below) at 215lbs. today and Pepper is still under at 186lbs. Puts him close to 230lbs final weight, and her at 200lbs. Both under what we set the target at to kick off the year, but nothing that can't be corrected next year should one of the boys decide to take again. The biggest learning would be to get older ones next year, born in mid Dec/early Jan. These were 1/31 birthday, a couple of weeks wiggle room would be $.
We move in next Sun, they get weighed Monday 8/5. We decided we would haul 1 at a time today to help the seperation anxiety continue to progress (they've improved a lot during walks - 1 locked in barn while other is out walking/out of sight/out of sound), Ty would stay back and clean the stalls. Well, we loaded Chomps first and I made it half way out the drive before he went completely ape shit in the hillbilly hauler. He got his front legs up on the door and was able to bust his head up thru the last roof board. I was able to quickly turn around and get him unloaded near the barn. We got him back in the pen, and he's all scratched up on his shoulder and his chest are with a couple good cuts in his front hocks.....well shit.
At this point he's completely stressed, tail just hammering like crazy. Got him on water, ty got to brushing and calming, while I went to work on the hauler. Got her all buttoned up, threw on an extra ratchet strap, lol, and decided fugg it, let's load em both, we gotta get them weighed.
I made it to the farm (25mins each way), and my FIL helped unload and get into the weigh/wash room. I had to lift his fat ass up onto the scale, and he just laid there. They got a good rinsing to cool off and got em loaded and back home.
Moral of story, don't take away the pussy....even if it's your sister

Pen setup tonight was 106 count along with 10 outside wash pens. Went well with lots of hands making little work in just over 1hr, but brutal heat in that barn.
Swine committe president says if Pepper makes 195lbs., he's 99% certain the packer will take her. As much as I want to bring her home, I don't. and Raising a single animal is a pain, and I'm not gonna do it until early Nov. for cooler weather so it would have to be butchered in late Aug. Plus it puts $ in Tys pocket for his work. But mmm mmm, my mouth is watering as I type this lol.

Kaydence wrapped up her woodworking project today. She received a Superior at county judging, which earned her a trip to the state fair today. She has to present her project book, the napkin holder she made, and she had to do a live demo. She had to measure and cut two different length boards, drill holes, then glue and nail them together with a butt joint. All in 10 minutes. She didn't win an award - which goes to the top 20% of participants and there were well over 50 kids in her group - but she received very favorable feedback from the judges overall. For a kid that took on something totally new for this project, we're definitely proud of her.

Today is move in day, Ty just went out for the last time to do his morning routine here at home. I had a chance to stop him as he made his way out the door to call attn. to the milestone, and to ask him think about the practices that were put in place that come to an end today. It was a half smile/half realization of what it means.
We made 2 trips in yesterday to finish camper setups. Then spent the rest of the evening finishing the show box. He decided he wanted to paint it instead of staining/burning for a wood finish. 4 locking casters on the bottom. I didn't realize he was a closet Raiders fan.
We have 5 in our group, so the U expanded and a tent was added. Bad week to be a beer!

Sorry if you already saw the FB posts, but it was a fun week with the family and friends! Ty got 5th out of 7 in Showmanship, and 6th out of 6 in his market class with Chomps. He hit the show ring for the first time in Showmanship, with him being the last into the ring. Unfortunately Chomps hugged the rail and Ty struggled to get him off and in front of the judge within the first 30seconds. The judge was awesome and provided great feedback for him to use next year. His 2nd time into the ring was with Pep in the underweight class. She missed weight by 10lbs (200lbs when we checked in), but it gave him another round of experience in short order and the judge expressed he would have like to judge her in class 1 if she made weight. Another hour later he hit the ring for the 3rd and last time with Chomps, but he was a plain Jane farm pig stock and within 5mins he was penned as 6th of 6th. Only the winner of each class made it to the final drive. Out of 6 hogs in the family, 3 purebred Hamps, 1 purebred Duroc, and our 2 crosses, none made the final drive for market classes. Cousins faired better in Showmanship, with one receiving Reserve and one receiving Premeier for Intermediate age.
Myles got his recognition for 2nd & Outstanding for his self-determined 3D project. Wyatt graduated Cloverbuds and we will have to wait and see what, if any, projects he will take next year.
All in all a fun, good year. I'm going to miss animals in the barn foe the next few months. Hoping next year brings another round of adventure and growth for all 3 and Notta-Lotta Acres.
