Back in the 50's plans were drawn up by the Army Corp of Engineers to dam up the Delaware River ( river that separates Pa. & N.J.)... Project was known as Tocks Island and it would consist of daming up the Delaware and flooding the existing areas... Many homesites were bought up and homes stood vacant for years... This would have created a lake approx 40 miles long... During the 70's there was an uproar to it's being built and the project was stopped.... Now all that land ( 70,000 acres ) is under the National Park Service and is open to the public for hunting and fishing... Some of the best hunting in the state is here... Very good deer, turkey and bear population ( since it's owned by the feds our governor cannot stop bear hunting )
I'll be turkey hunting it Sat. and parking in and old Homesite... Thought you history buffs would get a kick out of this info...
