Back in the 50's plans were drawn up by the Army Corp of Engineers to dam up the Delaware River ( river that separates Pa. & N.J.)... Project was known as Tocks Island and it would consist of daming up the Delaware and flooding the existing areas... Many homesites were bought up and homes stood vacant for years... This would have created a lake approx 40 miles long... During the 70's there was an uproar to it's being built and the project was stopped.... Now all that land ( 70,000 acres ) is under the National Park Service and is open to the public for hunting and fishing... Some of the best hunting in the state is here... Very good deer, turkey and bear population ( since it's owned by the feds our governor cannot stop bear hunting )
I'll be turkey hunting it Sat. and parking in and old Homesite... Thought you history buffs would get a kick out of this info...

I’ve hunted out in that area and it’s beautiful! My brother lives not to far from there.

Rooster it is gorgeous, a ton of land to hunt on both the N. J. side and the PA. side... Figured other than the historical value, maybe someone on here might wanna come hunt one day.... Sat. If I go I'll take some pics of the few remaining buildings....

Went looking for birds here tonight... Didn't hear any but that's ok... Buddy that has COVID has been lucky enough to hunt through it and has killed 2 birds there this week...
As promised here's a few pics.... If only those homes could talk... Bet George and Martha went for a roll in the hay in one or two of them... Alot of history there....

Awesome looking place man. I'll have to get over that way sometime.
Just give me a shout.... Like I said awesome area on both sides of the river... Everyone thinks Jersey is a concrete jungle... Not true, we have some beautiful areas... If it weren't for the politicians it would have everything you could want.. Fishing, hunting, hiking you name it...

So some morning good came from the environmental wackos? Imagine that.
sweet looking area, we stayed at the Wyndham Shawnee Village one winter and drive into New York City, it is amazing how rural the area is not to far from the Big Apple.

Clay,, Yes I guess you could say definately that some good came from the tree huggers when it came to this... Yes it is very rural less than 45 min from downtown Manhatten... Some amazing real estate in North West N.J. Heck my niece lives in Mahwah NJ which is maybe 35 min from the GW bridge leading into NY City and she had a bear in her yard today....

I’ve said the same thing. I could live in Sussex if it wasn’t in Jersey.
