I don't remember if Ive posted this, so bear with me if this is a repeat. Its hell getting old.

My dad used to hunt Alaska every year. He took two weeks off at the start of Sept for moose season. He went for over 20 years straight and got a moose every year before he died. He took me and my cousin several times. We rarely hunted moose because school started at the end of August. But we got several caribou and one Dall sheep. Lots of stories...they've mostly faded to gray now...don't have any of the pics digitized. He mainly hunted out of a cabin where the Maclaren and Susitna rivers meet. It was a 20 mile horseback ride from the closest gravel road. The cabin was a sod roofed affair, just up the hill from an old trappers cabin that still had some old TNT sticks in it. We just left it alone and it did the same.

Later he started chartering a bush pilot out of North Pole, AK to fly him back to whereever he wanted to hunt. He'd stay back there by himself or one guide for however long it took to get a moose or caribou. Then they would land on a nearby gravel bar or mountain ridge and ferry him out. Lots of stories on that...like the time a bear attacked the guide who was field dressing a moose. The guy actually fought the bear off using an 8" hunting knife. Broke the knife blade off in its neck. Bear ran off and we dont know what happened to it. Guide was unable to walk and almost died. He was a big dude too.

Much later, I took my first and only wife there on our honey moon. We drove an RV all over the state. Good times.
Sitting here thinking about hunting tomorrow in my unhealthy state. Got my mind wondering and thought of this guide. I'm freaking spoiled these days! Lol. Trying to line up a ride to the heated blind. Wtf, I'd of kicked my own ass 10 years ago calling that hunting. Lmao

Don't kick yourself, dude...simply getting out there and sitting in the woods or by the field is better than sitting in front of the TV getting angry at what you're watching. Heck, you're doing more than I am. Last time I hunted was with my stepson in mid Dec. He got a nice doe and was all kinds of excited. It was also the first time he'd sat by himself since he'd started hunting. Was very impressed with the terminal performance of the 300 win mag vs the 243 he's used to shooting.

My plans for tomorrow involve going to Meijer and then to a pizza/wings joint over in Hilliard, then home to fix up a new laptop for my stepdaughter. She wore out the one she's had for the last three years in college. We hope this new one makes in through whatever grad school she needs.

So you go on out to that heated blind and knock something down. A bad day in the stand is better than a good day at work.

Just crazy what I used to think hunting was about. Roughing it and pounding out days of rain/snow and misery "putting in your time" to earn the meat. Taking days sometimes to pack the meat out. Now I'm looking at a heated blind, with an Uber 40 minutes from the house. Lol
And I would bet that you will kill tomorrow or have a chance.I had a spot I would have someone drive me around the edge of the crp field and I'd see deer everytime if I walked the path around the field I'd blow deer out everytime.

With how this year began for you a ride to and from the blind is the only thing that makes complete sense. No reason to hoof it, stress your body out more and end up in the hospital. You wanna go, go on the idea that gets you there and back safely. You kill something, you’ve got plenty of people to come take over and get it out. Hell let me know and I’ll be on my way!! Good luck if you get out and enjoy it like I know you will!!
