Two of my custom 22LR squirrel rifles.
A Ruger #1 that was originally a 30-06. I had a friend convert it to 22LR. We kept the original Ruger barrel and installed a match liner. It'll shoot one hole groups at 25 yds. and was my go to squirrel rifle. Then I picked up a custom Winchester 52 Pre-A #2051 serial number that was put into a 1930's Stoeger stock and had custom double set triggers installed. I had the same friend make a scope block for the dovetailed receiver sight on the rear receiver bridge. It'll be another go to squirrel rifle when I get a modern scope put on after turkey season and food plot seeding is done.

Well I for one love em both!
Good Post MK

Thanks. Notice the Ruger #1 muzzle shot you can't see the liner. The picture is a little fuzzy but he installed a target crown and broke the crown on the edge of the liner making it invisable.

A funny thing happened when he was drilling out the #1 bore for the liner. He told me he was drilling with a extended bit and smoke started come out of the side of the barrel about 3/4 down towards the chamber. He was only removing .030 so that's only .015 per side.
He had removed the Ruger factory scope rail and the factory D&T'd hole were less than .015 from the bore. The smoke was coming out the screw holes. Damn wonder the firing pressure never blew the scope rail off.

Love the education you bring with your posts Frank. Very cool. You sure like to modify your guns. You know what you want and like and you make it happen. I have a lot of respect for this. I personally have no knowledge in these types of modifications. I would have flipped the gun and bought a different one to suit my needs. lmao

Thanks Phil. It doesn't come over night. Doing gunshows for 28 yrs. I've seen a lot and met a lot of good people with knowledge.
I've sorta had a opportunity to do it all in the past. Now I just enjoy myself. My so called "tickle your fancy" deals are over and I just get what I want to enjoy myself in my later life. But everything I do pick up I sorta make sure the value is there for the family when I no longer need it. These are probably my last 2 special items. Or at least till the next one comes a long. LOL
I have to check if I ever posted my custom fully engraved Springfield 1922M2 22LR rifle that I use as a show stopped to buy parts with. You have to stop at the Lima show and see that one. Matter of fact I'll probably bring all 3 of these rifles to display in May as they are good show stoppers and get people to remember me in the future. Remember May is the last show till October.

My new squirrel rifle a springfield 1922M2 fully engraved beauty. 22LR

P.S. I will have it at the Lima gunshow this weekend if anyone wants to stop by and fondle it in person. Not for sale as it's a keeper.

I did post it in the past and since I mentioned earlier. This one's special but a money marker.

How was the rimfire conversion done to the no.1? Most common method is changing the linkage so the block doesn't quite come all the way up. Some redo the firing pin in the block or offset the chamber but that seems to require much more machining.

He lowered the firing pin in the block .100 to hit in the rimfire rim and filled the original firing pin hole. The linkage is a piece of art and not a easy piece to make. Couldn't off set the chamber since only a liner was installed. He took a new factory 22 Hornet extractor and welded it up to fit the smaller diameter 22LR case.

Went to Vance's today and was intending to look at their Savage .17s but noticed that they still had a TC Black Diamond on the used shelf. Had the guy behind the counter take it apart so that I could inspect the barrel and it was whistle clean. It's got a few blemishes on the stock and outside of the barrel, but has the 209 conversion kit (so I could also shoot No. 11 if I wanted to). The breech plug has a little bit of pitting on it, so they threw one of those in for free.

There was a sticker on the stock and I just peeled it off to see that it was covering up another sticker. Apparently this gun was an ODNR District 3 firearm safety instruction weapon. So that eases my concerns over buying a used gun.

I only parted a Benjamin for it, so I think I got a deal. I'll clean it up, put a scope on it, and hunt with it this fall. I started muzzleloading with a loaned Black Diamond from my uncle, so I know that these guns can be tack drivers.

Deal or no?

Not familiar with this specific model. Most of the $100 and under muzzle loaders I see are walking at gun shows and are someone else's problem they are looking to trade off. Given the cleanliness and history of yours, I would think you did just fine. Enjoy dialing it in.

Black diamonds are fine rifles, my son has one. Even though it takes the 209 primers the old style breech plug isn't really suitable for blackhorn powder. Post a pic of the breech plug where the primer seats and I can tell you which you have.

Any load recommendations? My other immediate question is, do you use anything for a breech cover?

The nipple is original, but the breach plug is new. The old one looks fine with some cleaning, but I knew I could get a free one from them to get a little more value.

Took it apart this evening and cleaned it up. Aesthetically it's probably a 6.5/10. But the internals and barrel are a 10/10...whistle clean. The first patch only had a little residue on it. Hit it with the brush and ran clean. Added a little bore butter followed by a dry patch. Sorry, J, forgot to take a picture before I tore it apart. Gonna let it sit for a few days as I cleaned the plastic real good.

Huck you see how the nipple looks like a castle nut with a spring around it? That isn't suitable for Blackhorn powder. The nipple should be solid with no notches. Not a big deal, other powders work fine and you probably can get a different nipple for $10-15.
