MK I can find ammo. Problem is some show a necked down cartridge like a 30.06 or higher powered cartridge. My understanding is there are two 45/70 rifles. One to shoot .45/70 government and one to shoot (necked down cartridge) and one to shoot .45/70 Federal (straight walled cartridge). "THEY" should not confuse and ole man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It ain't nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!! rotflmao:tantrum::tantrum::pickle:lmao

Now this old man is really confused. There is no actual 45-70 model rifles. The Marlin 1895 is chambered for the 45-70 round. There is no 45-70 necked rounds per say. If necked down it wouldn't be a 45 caliber anymore. There is a 40-65 which is a 45-70 case necked down to 40 caliber.
Or am I just not understanding the question? That happens a lot. LOL

Well MK I'm usually pretty good at confusing folks, even me self. I'm looking at sportsmanguide.com ammo page and there is straight walled /45/70 and necked down cartridges. Dis is where my confusing came from. Thank you.

My dad always said " oh I see said the blind man as he picked up his hammer and saw" when he understood something after he figured it out.
My dad was uneducated being pulled out of school in the 2nd grade in 1918 by my German grandfather to work on the farm. Very smart man just no formal schooling.
I learned a lot from that.

Nothing wrong with that Frank. Plenty of those with piles of degrees and not real smart. Others with minimal formal education but plenty of brains. Schooling or lack of does not dictate intelligence in my opinion.

marlin makes two rifles based on the 1895 action. The 308 mxlr http://www.marlinfirearms.com/Firearms/xlr/308MXLR.asp
The 308 mxlr is chambered for the 308 marlin express and 338 marlin express which are necked now cartridge. delveloped by hornady for marlin.

marlin also make the classic 1895 http://www.marlinfirearms.com/Firearms/bigbore/1895.asp
chambered in the straight wall 45/70 and 444.
the 308me and 338me cannot be fired out of the regular 1895

DSCF0264.jpgDSCF0270.jpgDSCF0292.jpg Some of my guns but I am in to the archery hunting so never really get them out of the safe much. The one I use the most is the camo rem 870 turkey gun NWTF 25th anniversary gun so it only gets shot once a year if I shoot a turkey. LOL Would like to purchase a nice hand gun though if I can decide what to get. Any suggestions? Something the wife would enjoy shooting also.

Ask the wife what she prefers. Maybe a 22LR of a 9MM because of recoil. Any time you guys can get the wife involved in shooting you are way ahead when it comes to increasing your gun inventory.
My wife's not interested in shooting and never understood my gun collecting. She has now changed her mind since I started thinning the inventory and putting the funds in the bank. Been a good investment.
