Been a while since I updated things on our adult league season. We won one two weeks ago and dropped our second game to the other top team in the league this past weekend. We really didn't play well committing 4 errors and stranding 9 runners in a 10-7 loss. The good part about that is I'm sure we'll face this team in the league championship and after splitting our season series, it'll make for a sweet victory to knock them down a peg for the title!!!

I've had a hit in our last 7 games. The only game I went hit less was the first game and I was 0-1 with two walks, both "unintentional" intentional walks. The pitcher that game knows I own his ass and he pitched around me both of my last at-bats. I'm definitely swinging a much better stick this year than I have in the past. I'm even hitting the ball to opposite field on purpose! I swear I'm a better ball player now than I was a decade ago in terms of understanding how to get things done and actually making them happen. I'm just a LOT slower at it now!!!

I hear ya on the better now than then. If I was still physically fit, I know I'd be better now than at 18 because my mental approach would be better. Like you mentioned hitting the ball the other way. I preach that like crazy now... stay inside the ball, drive the gaps, etc... As an 18 year old I just wanted to drive the ball over the fence and my average suffered for it.

As a player I was never told that and was strictly a pull hitter and only hit the ball the other way with authority if it was an accident. Knowing what I know now, I know I'd be a much better hitter. I'm sure that is what you are experienceing. Be happy you still have the physical ability and time to play. I wish I could still flash the leather once in awhile besides on a practice field.

We got a chance to redeem our first loss of the year on Sunday with a 4-1 win. We scored one in the top of the 1st, then gave up one in the bottom. We ended up scoring another run in the 4th, then adding two for insurance in the top of the the 7th. It was a pretty quick game and minus one throwing error and two bone head base running errors, it was a pretty solid game. I know the pitcher (league President) and catcher (former league VP) better than anyone else in the league and them sons of bitches never throw me anything to hit. 1-1 with two walks and I had to swing at ball four just to get a hit in my last AB!!!

Klay's tournament season came to an end on Sunday. They beat Steubenville in the championship to win our own tournament. So, they finished 1st in Toronto, 1st in Weirton, 2nd in Richmond, and 1st in Wintersville with an overall record of 14-2.

Dang, thats great Mike!
Mason missed their tournament last weekend due to our vacation. I haven't heard anything about this weekend's tournament. If we aren't contacted soon, we'll just plan on going to the TOO shoot. The allstar thing has not been a great experience. :)

We've had two games since the last update and both were good wins for us. We won 13-5 against the worst team in the league despite my best pitcher walking the first 3 batters of the game on 12 straight pitches. I thought I'd take a game off and play first, but that didn't last. The kid is a head case and if I'm not behind the plate, he goes haywire. After I went behind the plate, he was lights out. We also got our first shut out and mercy of the year on Wednesday night with a 10-0 win. That secured back to back regular season titles for us and that's TOO good!!! We will be the #1 seed in the league tourney that starts next weekend. I have my fingers crossed that we can repeat as league champs!!!

I also started my softball career last night with two games in the middle division at our local softball complex. In my first two softball games ever, I faired pretty well. I went 5-9 at the plate with 4 singles and a double. I scored 5 runs and had 3 RBIs. I lined out once on maybe the hardest hit ball of my life, had one fly out 5' short of the fence, another 10' short of the fence in center, and one lazy fly ball. I flashed some leather at first and proved that my defense would translate! It was a great time and it was nice to just relax and play ball for once. I think I proved I'm not just some hot shot ball player trying to make the conversion, so that was good!!!

Jesse, congrats on another great season. You better win the league again!

Fall ball started for the boys. I took a team on one condition... I said I would do it if I got only kids that attend Indian Creek schools. I know, I'm a dick, but there is no way in hell I am going to coach kids that attend Steubenville so they can stick it in my ass in the future.
So, I got a team of 12 kids, all from Creek.

The fall league is set up so that you play in the division in which you will play next year. So, kids that played their last year of Mustang (9-10) move up now and gain experience eventhough they may still be 10.

Only 3 of the 12 kids are second year players at the Bronco (11-12) division. The rest are all first timers. We will take our lumps at the beginiing, but at least I know the kids are learning the way I want them taught. We've been going over double cuts, run downs, pick offs, 1st and 3rd plays, etc...
This is stuff that they have no clue about and it looks like a train wreck right now, but soon it will be second nature to them and it will be something that sticks with them all the way up and hopefully they remember it when they play for me in HS.
My assistants are like, "I never even heard of a double cut". LMAO!
So, I guess they are learning something too. Othe rlittle things like having the thridbaseman cut home from LF and the 1B from CF and RF... they've never seen it. Are you kidding me????

Well, like I said, at least they are leanrning the right way and they are a great group of kids. They listen and they try. that's all I can ask for.

Kody gets and XRay on Aug 13. Hopefully he gets cleared to start practicing.

I'm just happy to be hanging around at this point of the season. The view from near the top is alot better than the last 20 years. I'll be frigging thrilled with a wildcard.

I'm looking forward to this weekends series, we should be some pretty damn good baseball if I had to guess!

We start our title defense tonight in the semifinals against a team we've beat three times, but I know we haven't seen their best baseball. The hardest thing to do in sports is beat a team 3 times in a season, so we avoided that! We beat them 10-2 the first time when both my pitchers were on fire. The second game was 6-4 and we didn't play that well. Third game was a 7-1 win and we played lights out. So I hope we all show up tonight!!!

Oh. And...

Well we are one step closer to a repeat of the Mid-Ohio Valley Adult Baseball League championship thanks to a 7-3 win last night. It could have been more dominating as all 3 of their runs were unearned and we stranded 7 runners and had 2 bonehead base running mistakes that cost us 2 more runs. I went 3-3 last night with 3 singles, one RBI, and a stolen base. We play for the championship this Sunday against the team who won it in 2010. Their best pitcher plays college ball and will be tough to beat, so this is going to be a great game!!!
