Kody's team moved on today with late inning heroics of their own. Kody came up with the tying run on third in the bottom of the 7th. Unfortuantely he struck out swinging as did the next hitter. However, the 4th batter of the inning singled in the tying run and he later scored on a single to win it and move on in the playoffs. I was hoping Kody would step up and be the hero but it wasn't to be. His roller coaster seaosn continues...

Big double header for us on Friday and man did we play good ball!!! We won 6-4 in the first game and 7-1 in the second game. For the first time in the 5 years I have played in this league, we had two HRs in the same game and these were actually in the same inning. My buddy hit a legit 2-run blast to left center that traveled a good 400' and I followed with a fat boy fly ball that went 325' and got out for the second 2-run homer of the inning. We never looked back after that! As a team, we put the bat on the ball all night which was a big improvement for us given their pitcher was a curveball/knuckleball guy. We typically don't hit those guys well. As a team, we played smart ball and hustled, so it was an enjoyable night. I even managed to hit the ball to right field (on purpose) for maybe the first time in my life! LOL!!! I ripped a fastball foul and the catcher says: "Well, that'll be the last time you see that." I just smiled, then flailed at a nasty knuckle on the next pitch. I said: "Man that was ugly..." trying to get him to throw me another one and sure enough, he did and I slapped it through the hole between first and second for an RBI single. If I could have learned how to do that in high school, I'd have been twice the player!!!

Klay's team won their semifinal game today against a team from Weirton, WV. He put the ball in play, but didn't have any hits. It was his first game this year without a hit. But, they won... that's the best thing. They play in the finals on Thursday against another team from our Wintersville league.

Kody plays in the semi finals tomorrow in Weirton, WV against the number 1 seed. The odds are against his team, but you never know.

The boys won tonight 15-7 without taking their last at bats. Ethan was 2-2 with a walk, HR, and single. Micah was 3-3 with 2 singles and a double. Proud of my boys!

Good reports, fellas!
Our boys made it through the first round of the tournaments. They stomped 'em! Our SS and third baseman are both back, and there are very few balls hit to that side that don't result in an out. Our outfielders have been working on their throws, and most of them are now strong enough to make the throw to second without wasting time on cut-offs. That may not be the way to teach the game, but we are in it to win it at this point. Additionally, we have three brothers on our team that have been good for 9 strike outs a game all season. Their dad and I have been working with them a LOT lately. In the first tournament game, all three had two hits each! In fact, the one boy had not had a hit all season, and he drove in our last run with a triple!!!! They stopped the game due to the 10 run ruled... I am pretty proud of those boys. It's taken all season, but SOB, they are a ball team to be sure now! As you know, last week was awful for us... having key players on vacation is incredibly frustrating, but I really think the boys are peaking when it counts most. Game tonight at 615... I fully expect the boys to be playing in the championship game tomorrow evening. Of course baseball being baseball, you just never know. :)

20 to 5. We won. In fact, we stomped a mudhole. The 5 runs were almost like a charity thing. No kidding, these boys have put it all together over the last week. We held a practice last night and worked out a few things with the outfielders. The opposition was somewhat surprised the first couple of times they arrived at second base to find a shortstop or second baseman waiting on them with the ball. This is one of the two teams I wanted the boys to punish in the tournament. This team ran on our's really bad a month or so ago, in fact it was so ridiculous that new rules were implemented. My boys would be wandering aroun the infield after the play was essentially dead only to see a runner burst to the plate. Yeah, it was legal but not the right thing to do on a team made up of 7-8 yr olds. Payback sucks, especially when you do that crap to a group of boys that are willing to do the work to fix the issues!

So anyway, tomorrow at 615 we play for the league championship. We have beaten this team once, and they have beaten us twice...both times were last week when some of our key players were on vacation. This team's coach is one reason I agreed to coach this year. He was Mason's coach last year, not a bad guy per se, but he needed an ego check. You never know with young boys, but I think he is about to get it. :) He is the head coach of Mason's all star team, and I have been helping out with that. They asked for suggestions for the allstar team and I gave them three from our team. He excluded our third baseman...and he is likely the most talented kid in the league! I've called them twice and spoke with them at each of the three allstar practices about it. They say there just isn't room (They have selected 6 of the 14 kids on the allstar team from their regular season team). Its a very aggrevating situation as I know (because I've been working with the allstars) that several of the kids have no business being there.... lazy kids with no interest in doing as instructed. My third baseman is a hussler and will try his best to do as he is told, a rare quality in a 7 year old! I feel he is getting screwed out of an opportunity, an really hope he plays his best game tomorrow! He deserves something for his efforts. Heck I may take him to Kings Island or something since he apparently won't be spending the rest of the summer in allstar tournaments. Dang...

I should edit my post but I'm too lazy. :) I didn't mean to make it sound like the allstars arent a good group of boys, they really are. There are two, maybe three of the boys that I wouldn't think should really be on the team...especially when I know they are in the place that young Conner should be. Conner is a worker, and loves baseball. I can't say that about all the boys that have a spot on the allstar team, most of them yes, but not all. I just feel like he got a raw deal.

Our season ended last night with a 21-3 loss and a final record of 2-7.
We should be one of the better teams next year as we'll be the elders of our league. This year we were the young ones.
We had fun. Now off to soccer season and soccer coach.

Good grief, soccer already? Dang. My kids have never played soccer, maybe they should. It seems to be a mighty popular thing around here these days. That's probably due in part to the fact we have the worst HS football program I've ever seen. I think it's been 20 years or so since they had a winning program.

I'm coaching 7-8 year old all-stars right now and we had our first tourney games last night and won by mercy both times. The second game was a sweet victory as we beat the host team after a bunch of bullshit from their side. We straight up pounded their asses...

2102 Coach Pitch Champs! My boys were both awarded the game ball. We won 17-9 without our last bats. Ethan had 6 RBI's 2 HR and a double. Micah had a 3B, 2B, 1B, and a SO. Not sure how many RBIs he had. Super Proud!!!:smiley_champ:

Klay's team won the playoffs in the 9 and 10 division tonight. This was a playoff in the OVYBL which consists of teams from Wintersville, Weirton, Wv, Chester, Wv, East Liverpool, Oh, Wellsburg, Wv and Follansbee, Oh.

That's Klay on the far right and my oldest brother is the tall dude with the black n grey beard.

Congratulations fellas! Nothing better than winning. Unfortunately, I can't say we won the championship game. It was very close, 5 to 3, and I don't think I've seen a better played game for such a bunch of young kids. Our boys did not bring their bats as they normally do, but for as well as the opposition hit the ball, our kids flat shut them down defensively. To the other teams credit, they made some unreal defensive plays as well on the relatively few hits we had. It was exactly what a championship game should be....meaning I can't stop thinking about the couple of errors we made that changed the game!:) It was fun anyway. :)

Another allstar practice on Saturday. Tournaments start next weekend I think.
