My ruger American 450 misfired on this guy at 40 yards Saturday of gun, second time this has happened because the bolt action has some play in it, the gun is being sent back to ruger for repair. My muzzleloader that I have never had an issue with, misfired on a 250# plus bear at 12 yards while out in NJ , I’ve had a challenging season, I need some luck tomorrow’s hunt.
Dang , I've heard of rough bolts in the very early Americans but never a misfire or anything. I've had two of the 450s one being an early one with a rough bolt but after a little compound and working the action several times it smoothed up. The other 450 and the 350 were smooth as butter and all 3 locked up tight . Hope it's a fluke and they figure it out for you

Me and the kids will be out gonna go see if we can triple up on does at a spot we seen 24 in one field during gun week. They will be behind the 350 and I pulled out a old single shot 12 gauge I've never carried to the woods I bought it for 50 bucks years ago, i have never shot it so I'm gonna shoot it in the morning and take it out tomorrow night. My brother and uncle are the only ones buck hunting, there will be shots fired by the kids atleast.

My son will be sitting with me for the first time ever in the morning. I'm excited but bummed at the same time. My buddies place where I've been hunting the last couple years is a deer haven. He was all for me bringing the boy out this year. That is until I killed my buck in early November. He was upset and went against the whole not caring about antlers thing and got mad that I shot the buck I did. He had him on cam and was evidently very set on killing that buck and as soon as I did things went sideways and I lost my spot and a good friend. I never brought it up here because it is what it Is but sucks a but since I wanted to take the boy to a place where I knew he'd see enough to have a good time. We're going to the wife's parents where I went during gun. It's just a hay field behind their house where the deer cross just before dark to go to the neighbors corn but I'm hoping for whatever odd reason a doe decides to stroll through in the morning since he has his boyscout Christmas party in the evening . He's sitting with me this year but will be toting his own gun next year . Have him lined up for his hunters Ed next year ! Best of luck everyone!

I had a Marlin Slugmaster 12 ga bolt action slug gun. It was a redesigned goose gun from decades before. It was notorious for having the same issue, if you bumped the bolt and it moved off of the complete down position (no lock or detent) it wouldn’t go off. It would just put a small dimple on the primer. Of course it happened just when a was still hunting and came up on a bedded buck 50 yards from me. Pulled up, pulled the trigger and ”click”! The loudest sound know to a Hunter in a quiet woods!
