Looking for opinions on chest packs. Looking to carry 10x40 binos, range finder and other accessories. Also looking for it to be able to carry a side arm. What you say?

I'll second the marsupial. I used one in AZ and some after. Comfortable and doesn't dig. The magnetic closure is awesome and the pouch pocket stays open and the opening flap opens forward instead of up so you can put the binos back one-handed. It has a few mesh pockets on the side for a puff bottle wind checker. And a mesh cell phone holder on the back side of the pouch. It won't hold a sidearm and range finder but I'm sure they have other models. I personally sisnt like how the larger ones stuck out and blocked my vision at my feet. I was archery hunting elk so I had to be careful with foot placement when stalking so I wanted to be able to just move my eyes down and look where my next step was landing., I don't think you'll have that same issue though. If you can do without those things and figure out another way to carry them you can borrow mine.

Edit.

It looks like they have rangefinder pouches to add and even a bottom mount holster you can add.

Another option would be Alaskan Guide Creations. I don't know how they compare to anyone else's, but I've used mine for 6 years and it still looks pretty much new!

They make good gear. I've been looking at their rifle sling.

One other thing, when I used the style sling you are looking at, I reversed the sling so that my barrel pointed down. This places the scope behind and below the rifle protecting it. It also keeps the gun from sticking up above my shoulder. Plus the forearm is easy to grab as it is at your hands height by your thigh while walking. I simply pull it up with the forearm hand in it's natural position as I raise it to my shooting shoulder. It is gun at the ready fast. I always tape my muzzle so nothing plugs it.

Like this old boy shows:

Shit we might make a deal. I will buy the accessories for it and you can keep them….maybe 😂. You loaning out a frame pack too?

Joe knows but I will tell all of you. I’m going on a Yukon moose hunt DYI.

@jagermeister Can you post some pictures, explain a little? I'm intrigued.
Joe covered it pretty well, but really it just boils down to my minimalist style / preference of hunting. I don’t like bulky items or taking a bunch of unnecessary gear into the field. The Marsupial pack is extremely well made and thought out in its design… but it’s incredibly simple and sleek. It’s absolutely quiet. It gives me just enough storage for my binos, cell phone, and a spot to clip my rangefinder. It’s all that I need for its suited purpose. Best of all, it lasts! I rarely hunt without it and not one piece on it has failed in the four or five plus years I’ve been using it. I had over 60 sits for deer this year alone, and it was with me for every one of them. Plus turkey season. Plus target archery season. Plus August scouting season. @Jackalope turned me onto the brand years ago with his testimony, and it was spot on.

Nah you keep em, put them on your day pack. I'll get you the pouch so you can check it out and see if its something you want to go with. I only have it for out west, other than that I don't carry binos or a range finder.

I don't have a frame pack like the ones guys out west use. I do have an XXL Military ruck sack with a metal frame and kidney pad. You're welcome to it, I'll bring it over so you can see if it's something you would use. They make packs better suited for hunting but if you don't want to drop a few hundred on a pack you might use once then it will get the job done.

The biggest thing I like aboit it is the quick disconnect shoulder straps. You can kind of see the mechanism in the top right photo. Grab the two snap tabs by your ribs and pull and the straps disconnect and the pack falls from your back, handy in an ambush be it people or a bear.

Oh. As you buy things for this trip remember the old military saying. Ounces lead to pounds and pounds lead to pain.
