They're fishing pretty good now up in the N lower peninsula and UP of Michigan. Definitely itching to get out this year some.
We are headed to northern michigan next week if anyone wants to join up. Will be fishing Thursday through Saturday night. Head back home Sunday morning.
Good luck. We're headed to Saginaw back early Feb hopefully. Made our reservation yesterday. Hopefully she freezes up by then . Historically it's frozen then
Yeah . I really enjoy it there . Much better access too than on lake Erie . We're gonna stay in a cabin at pinconning state park. Should be able to leave right from our cabin each day to head out on the ice .
We stayed on the East end last year to avoid some trouble spots. Still ran 10 miles out though.
Those trouble spots made an interesting day for us last year! This was a shove that formed as our ice chunk was shoved inland by the wind. Pretty narly shit. Had to get creative and eventually just "send it" to get across.
As long as the wind is in favor of the cracks, I always enjoy a good adventure through the shove. Also love the "blue" ice up there!
Would love to see ice like that on the Western basin right now.
A year ago today this pic would have shown ice shanty's not guys fishing off the pier lol

Didn't tear them up by any means but caught a good amount of crappie as well as huge 8 to 9 inch bluegill and pumpkin seed. Caught a few bonus pike and bass as well. Scratched the itch for awhile at least. Had a nice catch and cook out on the lake too. As soon as we got North of Ann Arbor it turned into a winter wonderland.
It was fun. We walked our ass off hauling two sleds and drilled over 50 holes before we found them though, haha. Makes it worth it when you drop your transducer though and a school lights up.
Nice job man . I am jealous. Hopefully get some ice time here at some point
