I'm a few days behind, but here are some pics from the waterfowl opener last Saturday...
John & I took the boys out to a field that was holding a few geese. The plan was to try and land the birds in the hole, that way the boys could have time to shoulder their gun, sit up and get a shot off on a close and slow moving bird. The geese didn't disappoint when it was time for them to decoy, but they weren't quite as cooperative on landing in the hole. We had a few land off to the side and several fly just a few feet over the blinds, but with the boys having never shot off their butts out of a layout we wanted to land them. After a while John and I decided that we needed to shoot... So we did. Getting our three birds each in short order.
With that out of the way, we went back to trying to land birds in the hole. Finally a few cooperated and John's son was able to connect on his first goose! It was a great morning out in the field and the boys had a blast. Hopefully this is the first of many fun hunts that we can get them on this season.
We even came up with some new terminology. Gooztar (goose star) which John son said sounds like it's German or something. So from now on, gooztar means "great goose hunt."
We definitely had a gooztar.
