Spalted Maple or Spalted Beech!
I was thinking the same. I have seen spalted wood that's really soft and spongy, and the piece of spalted maple Beener gave me is harder, it seems like it will turn nice. I have seen strikers made of a few species of wood that were spalted.I'd think the integrity of it being spalted would play a roll in how it turned and sounded. I think I have both in the garage though. I'll also take a look in my old mans stash this weekend.
