We have been using this for years. My wife collects jewelweed and makes salve so we have it all year long, and she also makes soap with it. The salve is also good to put on prior to going out if you think you could be exposed to poison ivy, it is supposed to prevent you from getting it. Make sure if you are collecting it to get the one with red blossoms, the jewelweed with yellow blossoms are not supposed to be nearly as potent as the red blossom plant.
Jewelweed salve
Chopped jewelweed - stems, leaves and flowers - 1 to 2 cups
3.5 oz olive oil
2.6 oz coconut oil
2.6 oz shea butter
.8 oz cocoa butter
1 oz beeswax
Put the jewelweed into the olive oil - and steep it for 12 to 24 hours. A crockpot on low works great.
Strain all plant material out of the olive oil.
Combine coconut oil, shea butter, cocoa butter and beeswax in a double boiler and melt over low heat.
Once combined, let cool a few minutes and then add the jewelweed infused olive oil.
This recipe will make two or three small jars.
