I have raised alot of hunting dogs between coonhounds and beagles. Natural ability is great, but I would much rather have a dog that is smart without as much ability over a dog with alot of ability but nothing between his ears. A smart dog will make the better dog. The great dogs that I have been fortunate to raise had both. The biggest issue with most dogs comes from the owners not putting in the time in the woods with them. It really takes alot of time for a dog to develop the best of his ability and brains.
Yard work is just as important too the field work. Especially in the beagle breeds.... Nothing worse than chasing after stubborn hounds

Happy birthday in dog heaven to the OG. He set the bar impossibly high and I may join him in the afterlife without having had a better dog. He'd have been 14 today.
Gotta love a good dog, she played hard today, swam in the canal, now she is taking a nap.
I see that flea/tick collar and will say that's the worst $160 that I've ever spent. Bought one for all 2 dogs and within a month, they'd chewed them off of one another. Fuckers can get lyme after that.

160 I hope that was for 3 dogs, we lost one from chewing, but I love them, they say 8 months, I get them early spring, don’t worry about winter. Love them, they work great
We swap them out after 8 months. We have a lot of ticks in the area. Once they hit the 7 month mark we notice more on the dogs..... TSC has em for $55 over here.... Never had an issue with fleas.... Yet.....
Heart wormer is a must. Somehow Reese got skipped last year and it ended up costing me around $900 and over 8 months of treatments. Could’ve been prevented for $25.

Give my dog ivermectin once a month and bravacto every 3 months. A bottle of ivermectin will last years and cost 35$. Bravacto chews cost me 56$ for 3 months.
