Betty started her heat cycle on Friday the 17th. A July cycle is out of the ordinary for her, but her last few have been irregular so it wasn't a complete shocker. Originally I had pretty much thought we were done with the notion of breeding her. But after some serious thought Sunday afternoon, I made the decision Monday morning to take her in for a progesterone test (this was roughly day 10 of her cycle). A blood draw and a swab later, doc Hutchinson said she would be ovulating within a day or two. Long story short, she's going in tomorrow afternoon to meet her stud for a trans-cervical insemination (AI). A second round is planned for Friday morning. If all goes well, we'll be sending some fine pups to happy new homes around the first week of December. And hopefully I'll get another little Betty clone out of the adventure.

My parents had to put down their 3 year old beagle today. The dog was a great listener however protected objects, areas, and various spaces. She’s issued out 9 dog bites over the last year within our family. Behavioral specialist said she wasn’t a happy dog and had anxiety related issues. She was queen of my parents household and won many obedience awards. Had a crazy streak which led to her demise today. My father said it was like having a rattlesnake within the house never knowing when she would strike. RIP Maisy.

Is it possible to overtrain your dog? The end result was a dog with obedience and command. The other end result was a dog with rebellion against thy Master(s) especially at days end. Thoughts from the Dog Whispers? A Good dog was not the Best dog in this case. 🐶
