Doggone good dog thread

Sitting in Canal Winchester (closest ER vet to our house) hoping for the best. Been hauling dogs in the bed of my truck since I was 16 and today was the day our worst fears are realized. Going 40 down a backroad and I see a flash of something in my mirror, then nothing an a split second of "WTF was that?", then she came back into view in my mirror. She walked back to the truck but when I went to put her in her crate, she yelped like crazy. When we got to the farm, she was pissing blood, we I hit the flashers and went 80 the whole way here. No clue what crossed her mind, but where she landed, there's no way she just fell out. As my dad would say, "It's always something" 🤦

Fack! Hopefully nothing too serious! But that pissing blood ain’t good! Keep us posted.

We had one do that and it was on a leash. Had a leg go under the tire and luckily her head pulled out of the collar. Stitched her stupid ass up in the parking lot of my shop. Hope it's an easy fix like my experience!

Took our 2 rescue dogs out walleye fishing the last 2 days. They did awesome on the boat!

No ruptured bladder or internal bleeding, which I was worried about. Bad news is a pelvis fracture that may require surgery, but won't know for sure until we hear from the orthopedic surgeon tomorrow. Filling meds and sending us home until we hear from the surgeon.
Bristol had another knee surgery almost the day a year later. All to familiar with veterinary orthopedic surgeons in that timeframe.
Get ready for some rehab if surgery is needed.

Here's the humor from the moment...

Sitting in the exam room, I could hear a lot of the conversations in the waiting room. I'm listening to a lady relay how her dog knocked over a bottle of wine and drank it when I hear a guy say, "Well, he ate 400-500mg of marijuana gummies and uh, yeah, he's pretty stoned." 😂

I couldn't help myself, so I went to the bathroom to get a visual. Dude was a nut case wearing a dress and the dog was a white boxer sitting like a statue. I'm here to tell to that dog was stoned as hell! His eyes were so red, 5 gallons of Clear Eyes wouldn't have made them clear up! The doc eventually comes in and says there's not much they can do for him and he just "needs to ride the wave". I did not have encountering drunk and stoned dogs on my bingo card when we arrived!

Whew... avoided surgery. She actually has two fractures to her pelvis, one semi-severe and the other a hairline, but neither affect her hip joint (but by the skin of our teeth). The orthopedic surgeon said "time is the tincture" and give it 8 weeks for a full recovery. Really hated to see her undergo surgery for a handful of reasons. She's such a loving dog and you can see it all over her face that she's miserable, so we were/are worried about her spirit. She'll come along, but the whole surgery experience would have been rough on her psyche for sure.

Lesson learned: No more dogs in the bed of the truck! I love letting them enjoy themselves back there, but won't risk it again.

An update on Moonshine. February, I came home from work, to go walk Moonshine. Moonshine was shitting liquid with blood on em. He done it like 6 times. So, we headed back to the house. I was trying to get a hold of the vet but they closed on the weekends. So, J got ahold of me to go get some pepto bismol to give to Moonshine. I gave him like teaspoon of it every 4-6 hours. Then Moonshine was, slept all day. So, Monday took him to the vet for check up, dropped sample off for fecal testing. They said he’ll be fine. They said just a stomach bug. Test came back negative, no parasite, and no ova. Great news. Doctor couldn’t believe how good Moonshine looked as black Labrador. I thought something wrong. Doctor said no, he’s in great shape for 11 yr old. Rarely see that in any labs. Doctor said to me just keep doing what you have been doing. He finally got all the shots he needed. Everything all checked up.

Anyway, fast forward …we just be walking everyday. He is doing just fine.
