Doggone good dog thread

One of our dogs had low red blood cell count at the last vet checkup so we took her back for another test and it also showed low red blood cells. They then did an ultrasound and called us this afternoon to tell us they found a mass on one of the lobes on her liver. Tomorrow we are taking her to a specialists for a consult and if they can fit her in the same day, a CT scan. After that, I’m guessing surgery and biopsy. I’m hoping it’s not cancer. At least we caught it early with her annual vet check up….shes not showing any signs so far…so that’s good.

She loves hunting shows TOO.

Cassidy had surgery yesterday. They got all of the mass from her liver and the vet said it did spread to her diaphragm. He said although they got it all, he is sure that there are microscopic cells that they didn’t get. They kept her overnight because she did lose a lot of blood. He called again this morning and said she is doing good and she peed a couple times and walked around. He said the next ten days are vital as there is a high risk of internal bleeding. We have another dog and he said we would have to definitely keep them separated as any activity will cause bleeding. We asked him to keep her for at least another day, and to be honest, although I want her home, her recovery is most important, and I’m not against them keeping her for the full ten days. They are over an hour away and if she had trouble overnight, and we didn’t find out until morning, that’s wasted time in getting her treated. It’s a 24 hour emergency vet facility so they would be checking on her throughout the night. The vet also said he thinks it’s cancer, but they won’t be certain until the results come back. Chemo may be in the future, if the oncologist thinks it would help, but we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. Thanks for all of the good vibes.
