Doggone good dog thread

Ok my turn. Here is Sully. I have him in a number of my pics from time to time & it just seems natural for a guy to have his buddy there too. His other name I admit is " Big Dumb ". He's nothing more than a lounge lizard. I never used him for hunting. He is the smartest dog in the neighborhood just the same ... well mannered & not noisy. He'll be six years old this December.

I have two dogs our Juno and Lacey. First one Juno is Blue Heeler and Kelpie dog mix. Her name is Juno we got her from a cattle ranch in Southern Washington. I take her hiking and backpacking. Like a lot of high energy herding breeds she lives to chase tennis balls. So much so that she doesnt know when it is time to take a break. Juno loves my wife and if we are home she has to be with in eyesight of jessie. This can be problematic at times. I typically call juno by her nickname tick or bug because of the way she acts with Jessie.



Our second dog is a Catahoula Cur named Lacey. she goes by a few nicknames coachwhip, talker and bear. I call her coachwhip because she like to beat the hell out of me with her tail. I call her talker and bear because she makes alot of bear like noises. She also wouldn't hesitate to steal someones picnick basket. She tracks deer blood and human scent. She is high drive and has a lot of endurance but she is also just as content to lay around the house or watch me work on something. She is extremely food motivated and will do just about anything to get food. She reminds me of that bear that ripped the electrified deer carcass off that tree. She is also very alert about what is going on around the house and yard. If she barks it typically is not without reason. The first time I took her backpacking she heard a coyote howl and stood guard over me the rest off the night. She does get into trouble if she is left out in the house unattended when we are not home.

Funny Kevin, Brutus was a bit of a camera hog as well. If we were taking pics of deer, equipment, the garden,etc., that old man was in the background somewhere. I would guess Sully is your shadow. Sounds like a great partner in crime.

Great looking dogs Tom. I enjoy hearing about guys truly working their dogs or taking them hiking/backpacking. That is awesome.

great looking dogs, Tom. well, that sucks Phil. sorry for your loss. Our remaining yellow Lab, Lewis is 12 and crippled up pretty bad. I've been thinking he could go (or rather I would have to decide to send him) any day for over a year. he keeps plugging along. when he goes and the crying stops, I'm getting another Cur.

Spencie posted about dogs and I remembered this thread. My wife has been bugging me to get another dog. Teacup Yorkie? NO. Weiner dog? NO. She is throwing little dogs out. I told her if she wanted a 2lb dog for her purse to try carrying our son's guinea pigs around in her purse for awhile. Then she did it. . . She found one that tugged on my heart strings. I love my wife dearly. Sometimes I don't like her though. She knew exactly what she was doing. I am perfectly content with the two dogs we have. I did call on this dog today though. There is one person in line in front of us to see him. If he doesn't take Milo. . . We will go see him. He is an absolutely handsome feller if I ever saw one. His personality and disposition upon our visit would determine if he came home with us or not. Of course, the first person in line to see him could very well take him home.

Good looking dog. I love boxers. Had one growing up and he was one of my favorite dogs. By far the best one with kids and just an amazing demeanor and personality. Hard to go wrong with a boxer IMO. I've yet to run across one that wasn't a joy to be around. Sorry... I know this isn't helping to talk you out of it. Lol

No worries Jimbo. If he has a good disposition, I am sure the first person in line will take him home. I love boxers as well but I have seen some "bad" ones. Seems they are either the best dogs ever or the most spazzy out of control freaks you have ever seen. They definitely need to get their exercise. Hanging with Hank outside and running off some energy would be good for an active boxer. My schedule is busy but I am in/out of the house a lot. This might help. I have seen some with major separation anxiety and some which are crazy destructive. They CRAVE attention. You can't leave a boxer tied up in the backyard or in a crate 10hrs a day and not expect some backlash. They are generally lovers though. Always need to be sitting on your feet, leaning against your leg, or curled up with the kids on the floor. I am definitely a sucker for boxers.

Here is Hank. He is the GSP we use for tracking deer. His personality is very similar to a boxer. High energy. Really affectionate. If you aren't petting him, he is leaning on you or nudging your arm wanting to be loved on. Dude can run like a gazelle! Crazy fast with his long legs. Amazing swimmer too. He will retrieve his rubber bumper until your arm is ready to fall off. He is a good boy.

That's a pretty GSP Phil. Before Sully, there was my GSP, Pete. He died when he was 7, of cancer. My wife has a Yorkie whom we got from the previous owner of Sully. Note to anyone contemplating a yorkie for their wife ..... STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM THEM !!!!!!!!

Me too. Great dogs. Just not a fan of long haired animals in the house. I have allergies. Our beagle is bad enough and she isn't a big shedder.

This is Betty, aka Betty Girl, aka Boo Boo, and sometimes aka little bitch. Betty is a 3 yr old pointing Lab. She's a jack of all trades so to speak... great duck dog and she really shines in the upland as well. She was the runt of her litter and her typical "fighting weight" is right around 55 pounds. Don't let her small size fool you, though. She routinely whips the shit out of 80-pound males that attempt to get fresh with her. Lol

Betty is an amazing dog that really works her butt off to fetch my and my buddies' birds throughout hunting season. But what's even more amazing is the impact she's had on my wife. My wife used to be as anti-dog as anyone I've ever met. She would refuse to even pet a dog, and if she did by accident, she would immediately go wash her hands. When I brought up the idea of getting a dog, she went as far as to threaten divorce. She was borderline serious too. So naturally I went ahead and brought the puppy home. Haha. Since that day, my wife has done a total 180. She is completely in love with this dog, and has actually been fine with most other dogs too. My wife used to really struggle with stress and anxiety, but ever since we got Betty her stress and anxiety levels have been virtually nonexistent. For me, that is even more valuable that the dog's ability to find downed game. Lol
