We had the priveledge of sharing a cabin with Dan. When we came back to camp he graciously gave Mason his very own arrow holder for bringing the first "buck" into camp. Mason was already pretty excited, but Dan's gift made the evening even a little sweeter!

Looks like this trip was a major success. I really wish I could have made it down there. Hopefully I'll have another opportunity to go next year!

The accomodations were more than adequate, but we did feel the need to decorate the porch a bit...

I guess OU being the "bobcats" is fitting. Here's a bobcat track that Mason found in the parking area! We found another while searching for his second deer on Sunday morning. Pretty neat!

Mike and Mason with Mason's second deer of the trip. Mike made the recovery of both deer exceptionally easy for us, and it was appreciated greatly along with all of the extra effort he put into the weekend! Mason told his mom it may well have been the best weekend of his life... I'll have to agree!

He wanted to go last night, but Ol Dad was too tired with too much to do! Mike has him pretty well convinced there is a 150"er behind every tree in Athens Co., and he does want to go back asap. He has grown up hunting where there are few deer, and it's entirely possible that is a factor in him being SO selective in the shots he'll take. Dang, that kid made me proud with his choices and actions this weekend!

Thank you, J, but I don't think I can take much credit. On the second one, he waited forever for her to get into a position to shoot with the young ones standing broadside. He did not want to kill another fawn, and refused to shoot. Finally the big doe made it to the top of the ridge and was broadside with a fawn standing between her and us. I told him to shoot the doe...he said "NO!" because there was a very slight risk of shooting WAY low and accidentally hitting the young one. Finally the fawn moved off, and he continued to wait patiently for the doe to turn just a little more before shooting. Dang! I just wouln't have had that kinda of patience at his age...or even when I was 20! You always wish your kids to be "better" than you are, and I think he will be! Proud dad here, sorry for going on... :)

Sharing a cabin with the Ratcliff boys was an honor.
Brock graciously kept the farting to a minimum.
Yeah, I brought some Hangtime Arrow Holders to give away as "door prizes" - Mason's BB and Austin's doe made it easy (first buck/doe in camp) AND it was cool that they went to the young guys.

I don't think anyone went hungry...if they did it's their own fault. Some guys wanted to share their specialties, and they were all good.
It paid off not to fill up on any one thing, but browse and have a sample of everything. I enjoyed it all, and I really like Dante's "pulled doe" (I had mine on a hotdog bun...mmmmmmm). And Ric's "special sauce" was extra special.

HOYT - DAMMIT - you told me the bacon wrapped potato recipe thingee and I've forgotten all the ingredients except the bacon and potato...please refresh my memory.
