How many hog hunters come up missing I wonder ....
Its not the kind of place to screw around that's for sure. If you leave the road you better have onX, a backup compas, a light and a plan to be back on a forrest service road before dark. Navigating out of a cypress swamp in the dark is misery, even with a light. Without Onx or a compas you might as well make camp and wait for daylight to get a directional bearing. I challenge any woodsman here to hold a heading for 400 yards through it, I'd put money on it everyone would walk in a loop. Everything is different and tou can walk for miles without an elevation change or terrain difference, it all looks the same and at the same time different from different angles. You can look at a spot ahead of you, step 5 paces to the left or right and look at the same spot and it'll look different. On an overcast day like this morning you're screwed without some way to check your heading. I have an exceptional internal compas in big woods, in a cypress swamp that all goes out the window if I don't have the sun.

Sob does look like a cotton mouth snake. Crazy I never seen nothing like that or heard of it.

Me either. Sucker's are really camouflaged and they usually don't fly off from what I'm reading. So it would make sense that Ive never seen one. Wiki says theyre fairly common. I bet you've heard one though. They sound like a whiporwill except the middle note isn't warbly. They're named from their sound. Chuck-wills-widow.

mofuckys pop out of the ground. Hard to run when they block you in on a one-way 2-track in the middle of nowhere. Guess I get to check dealing with a fed boy off the list, definitely more put together than all the pud baby state guys I’ve dealt with View attachment 217862

Federal possum cop. He never found that white F-250 he was looking for. 🤣 Not that I did anything. For the readers, there's a Forest Service road gate that's usually locked to prevent people from joyriding and rutting up the road. It's always been open for pig season though. New area manager and fed guy this year so it was locked. I texted Chance as I didn't have the new area manager's number. Apparently, before Johnny Law could get out there someone used their master key. He had pictures of the vehicles that went back there so he was sniffing around. I told Chance to give him my number or he could swing by the campground. Short of seeing someone do it, or some idiot admitting it, he was just chasing his tail.
