Food, what are you eating?

Read the ingredients on low carb breads. Often plenty of chemicals in them. Non GMO, organic, no artificial colors, non bleached flour, etc is what we are looking for when we get bread.

What does the research say for lipid panels and this keto/carnivore/low carb diet? I had blood work completed back in March and most of my numbers were within normal spec. I had another round completed last week, and my LDL and Total Cholesterol are both elevated above “normal” range. Neither were high enough to be losing my mind over, but elevated nonetheless. Total Chol went from 181 in March to 207 last week (normal is 120-199). LDL went from 120 to 127 (normal is less than 100). Non-HDL Cholesterol rose from 134 to 142 (normal is less than 130).

I’ve lost a bunch of weight and I feel great. I feel like my testosterone is higher than it used to be prior (no data to back that up). All in all I feel good, but is this WOE going to give me an early heart attack?

@Big H you and your wife have been on this train for a while… Have you guys had any bloodwork done to compare numbers?

Yes, we have both had complete bloodwork done a couple of times. And yes, our cholesterol is slightly elevated.

I will find a couple of articles and post them for you to check out on YouTube. I would highly recommend getting a CAC (Coronary Artery Calcium) test done. I believe I mentioned it before on this thread, your insurance typically will pay for one if your doctor will prescribe it for you. It seems that the medical field has changed the goalposts for cholesterol in order to push statins. It is truly hard to dispute the fact that the US medical field in large part driven by the pharmaceutical industry.

Kristi is a huge podcast listener while she is working and did extensive research before we embarked on this WOE. She is also in the process of dumping her regular doctor and going to a functional medicine doctor since her current doctor was pushing her to go on a statin and she refused. As many of you know, I lost my wife Donna over 10 years ago after a long battle with lymphoma and I blame her cancer in large part on diet. Shortly after Kristi and I were married in 2017, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and over the past 6 1/2 years is when she started researching the US medical practices, diet etc... Long story and numerous examples later, which would require a real conversation, but one of the driving factors behind her looking into different opinions is when she got into an argument with her doctor that was going to do her mastectomy and they were planning on taking out ALL of the lymph nodes in the area of her left breast. The doctor's reasoning was that this was "standard procedure", even though it would have been life changing. BTW, they ended up only removing 5. She absolutely blames her cancer on past diet, especially sugar. In fact, after numerous surgeries over the past years, she is going in tomorrow for hopefully what will be her last one of this long journey.

JB, most physicians I follow say elevated cholesterol is not really an issue. They claim only 20% of your cholesterol levels is related to food you eat. They also claim cholesterol levels have falsely been accused of causing heart disease. Based on how you feel, do you think your body is not operating better than it was?
I had a busy day on Monday. I had an appointment with my kidney doctor as well as immunotherapy scheduled at the infusion center. My blood work was drawn and I went up to the kidney doctor. I had not seen him in six months, which happened to be about the time I started this. Obviously he was curious as to what I had been doing. I prefaced my answer with “I know a high protein diet is not supposed to be good for kidney function “ … he asked what kind of meat I eat and I told him mostly ribeye. He rolled his eyes! And then he said, “It’s working”. Keep in mind I have one kidney. Six months ago my kidney function was at 60%. This visit it was at 76%. A dramatic improvement. All of the benchmarks had dramatically improved!
After that visit I went back to the infusion center for immunotherapy. This was my fourth treatment. Prior to the other three I had fasted for 24-36 hours. I did not this time and I’ve been sick since. Like don’t want to do anything and very nauseous kinda sick. There is real power in fasting, I believe. I got lax prior to this treatment but will not do that again.
Not that weight loss was a motivation for me, but I’ve gone from 245ish to 180 since the first of July. Aside from this week, I’ve felt better than I have in years.

Thank you guys for taking the time to put your words into text. I appreciate the feedback. I have heart disease and cardiac issues on several branches of my family tree, so I get a little sensitive about this facet of my health. I’ll do some research in the areas you all suggested and go from there. Thanks again!

SCORE!! PSA - Giant Eagle has chuck roasts on sale this week for $4.99 pound, 20 cents more for PRIME. I picked up 5 nice ones. While I was there I inquired about the Chuck Eye Steaks that were on sale for $6.99/pound. Conversation went like this, "How many do you want? How many do you have? We have 20. OK, I'll take all of them"
