Food, what are you eating?

I’ve pretty much eaten eggs and steak since late June. I just got home from a week long hospital visit. Essentially I didn’t eat fro three weeks. I was pretty sure I was gonna die. I came home yesterday weighing 168# and admittedly looked like a POW. Not wanting my mother seeing me that way, I’ve eaten everything I can get my hands on. Especially fruit. A lot of fruit. I’ve also had several meals of rice and chicken and tomorrow I plan to go buy my formerly favorite cookies. When I get back to 180, I’ll clean it back up.

Hate to hear that man, glad to see you out. Christmas tree cakes are still in season.

Hospital food absolutely sucks! Glad to hear you made it back out.

I made the mashed turnips last night. I misjudged the amount of cream too use. So other than being runny, they were actually very good. I read a few recipes and a common denominator was they were a little bitter. But choosing younger/smaller turnips and actually boiling a russet potato with them, then removing the tater, it pulls a lot of the bitterness out of it.
Had it with some deer chops, and finished it up this evening.
I‘ll definitely be doing this again.

We have been returning them to the pan after cooking and draining on low heat for a while to cook off more moisture. It takes a few minutes, but it made a noticeable difference. Lots O butter, just a smidgen of heavy cream. I do not mind the bitterness at all, but I love parsnips. Nancy hates them.👎🏻

Yeah, probably should have put them back in the pan as well. They appeared pretty dry when I drained them. They fooled me 😂

Nancy out to dinner and to see a Christmas light thing with her girlfriends from high school. I be bacheloring tonight. Cauliflower crust pizza with extry cheese and all the good pizza meats, and some buffalo wings for an appetizer. Better than I expected. This is the first food I have eaten that was not home cooked since the end of June when Nancy and I went to The Refectory for dinner on our anniversary.

I'm fixing to make herb roasted turnips tomorrow night to eat with some venison tenderloins. We have to scrounge for turnips in these parts. Common for our Kroger to not have any, but our Kroger has the worst produce on the planet, so it is not a surprise.

I found some grass fed Mongolian beef at costco last week. Last night the wife made it up with a bag of Kroger stir fry and rice on the side. One scoop of rice and a healthy serving of veggies and it has destroyed me way worse than the Chinese buffet of meat I ate. I already told my wife I was going back to being strict starting Monday. Both tasted amazing but this meal was not worth it. I will likely eat it again. Probably just won't eat it with rice. If it still bothers me, I'll eat it without the veggies and just do broccoli with it. I do recommend the meat. Very tasty.

Came off a 72 hour fast last night with a braised deer shoulder and a smoked deer hindquarter. It was my first attempt at both. I must say, the deer shoulder was absolutely phenomenal. I won’t bone-out a deer shoulder ever again. Had some friends over and had some Busch light and bourbon too. Probably not the best decision to drink immediately following a fast but I’m only human lol.

I’m down 30 lbs now, coming in at 175. This is the most trim I’ve been in ten years and it feels great. Now I just need to get my ass in the weight room again and I’ll be set.
