The original release of the 220 had primer strike issue specific to what your experiencing as well as ejection issues clearing thr scope bases. You may want to check with savage also. How was the primer bed depth compared to the spent shells. It could be just a bad primer.
Sorry to get off topic here... But in what way did Savage correct the ejection issue, Milo? Reason I ask is because I've found that if I don't open the bolt hard (real hard), the spent shell seems to get hung up on the scope base and fails to eject. Is it possible that I unknowingly purchased an older version of the 220? I wonder if that's why the recoil pad wasn't soft and squishy...
