Update...

I took my new 220 over to Fin Feather Fur on Friday morning... explained to them that I didn't think the recoil pad on my gun was the correct one... And the guy swapped it out with a new pad in about 10 minutes. Pretty good service!

I also noticed that Remington has a $5 per box mail-in rebate on Accutips right now, so I picked up 4 boxes of 2.75" Accutips while I was there.

Is yours the 212 or 220 JB? How much were the acutips selling for over there? Did you go to the Canton store?

My gun is a 220. The accutips were on the shelf for 14.99. So take off the 5 dollar rebate and you're at 10 bucks a box. I went to the Ashland store.

Getting a shotgun ready for an acquaintance and all I had left was my Remington NitroMag (smoothbore with just a dot) that wasn't being used/potentially used.

Brennekke KO's out of a smooth bore, bead sight, 73 yards (distance to pond dike from the porch)....had to laugh. These are my first three shots...

The cover up dot that I put on it was gone first shot.

Finally got around too firing off an email too the remington co about their accutips, we'll see what happens.....

I recently purchased a Savage model 220 and read many articles as to what sabot to use with this gun, I settled on the Accutip after choosing a variety of sabots. I had basically put around 60 rounds through this gun seeing which would work the best and the Accutips held the tightest grouping out to 150 yards. After shooting a few boxes of the Accutips I bought 3 boxes for the upcoming deer season here in Ohio. I hunted for a couple of days before finally getting a shot at a doe @ 15 yards, perfect broadside shot and the gun failed to go off. I tried it (the same round) again and again no ignition. The deer ran off and I was left scratching my head as to what just transpired.

I tried a different Accutip and it fired off as advertised and when I looked at the unspent round versus the discharged round the primer had a different depth of indentation on the primer, the one that fired was deeper than the one that didn’t and you can see a noticeable difference in them. I tried firing that round a few more times just to see if it would go off with no luck.

I was highly irritated at this point and I know no round is full proof but after paying the amount of money that is charged for these sabot rounds (14.00 per box of 5) I can only feel if you’re going to charge a premium price for a sabot then I should express premium results from said round. I feel that your round did not hold it’s part of the agreement so to speak.

The lot # on the box is P29UA and I don’t know if you have any issues with this lot # but I know I do. I have used your products (Copper Solids and express shot shells) for the last 15 + years and have bought many of those rounds over the years with no issues and this being my first year with the Accutips I got to tell so far I’m not happy…. I have a half a dozen friends who shoot these rounds as well and after talking to them they’re a little nervous about what had happened to me and are anxious as to see what your answer to this will be.

The deer I was trying to harvest wasn’t a trophy wall hanging white tail buck but it was meat in my freezer and food on the table and to me that’s far more valuable than a taxidermist bill….. Like I stated earlier I paid for my ammunition and didn’t get the results I’d hoped for.

I thank you for your time and await your response.

Looks good J. Be interesting to see how they respond. I would imagine their response will determine whether I try them in the future. Then again, I don't remember the last time I carried my shotgun.

The original release of the 220 had primer strike issue specific to what your experiencing as well as ejection issues clearing thr scope bases. You may want to check with savage also. How was the primer bed depth compared to the spent shells. It could be just a bad primer.

That I believe is the true issue Milo.... The dimple on the unspent round is half that of the one that went off..... I looked at all the rounds I had used during the sight in process and that is the only round like it....

Id hit up savage first...just sayin though.

I would of hit them first Milo, but I've shot it over 60 times with a variety of rounds and it was only this one round..... Kinda makes me think the primers not too specs..... I may be wrong but I'm thinking about taking it too work and miking the round that went off...... Versus the one that didn't go off......
