Hit a doe

Sorry to hear you didn't recover the deer. Get out there and get another one. I'm in Hamilton but was up North in Lima setup at a gunshow or I could have come over and helped look.

Yep, sorry the deer was not recovered. Glad you put this kind of effort into finding it. Too often I hear stories of guys hitting one and as soon as they lose blood, don't find enough or even find it right away they call it off.

Congrats on your child and future hunting buddy

Please tell this story to them when they are old enough so they will always remember how wise their father is now, after learning the lesson the hard way, about bow hunting in the rain. You may save them the same disappointment during their hunting career

Hopefully my children wont hunt alone as i do so they will have another set of eyes with them. I consider myself a very ethical and hard core hunter and don't accept defeat easily. I gave the same effort for this doe as i would have for a buck. I don't like an easy hunt, my most memorable hunts are the hardest ones I've had the pleasure of doing. This will be a memorable hunt for me, not a victory however, but an experience. My first archery hunt, first time drawing back on a deer and first, hopefully last, lost deer. I killed my first mule deer in a setup much like this one: sitting on the ground with a downed log in front of me, deer entering a clearing from the west a mere 20 yards below me but with an old .30-30 my dad carried.

Out of the dozens of mule deer, blacktail deer, elk, hogs and bear that I've shot losing one hurts the ego a bit but it does happen. I'll cowboy up and be back out hunting this weekend living my dream.

Lundy,

I agree that it is a painful and valuable lesson, however, it isn't limited to "bow hunting"...

i was sure you were going to find it. sorry you didnt.

It happens though. tough pill to swallow, but we all have either been there, or will be there sooner or later.

I would have to agree. Tough pill to swallow, bow or gun. Rooster put in a diligent effort. Chin up Rooster and better luck with the next one.
