We always had one two person canoe and one kayak when we were kids, that way one kid could take a break when tired. Can’t really go wrong if sticking to slower water. Canoe is handier for deer hunting.

Well, I went to West Marine to get a stainless screw for my boat cushions that I couldn't find in Medina. $1.09 each, so I got a few, just in case. It was a trap! I ended up loading the two (2), Wilderness Systems Recon120 HD's in the back of my truck and brought them home. I couldn't walk away from the deal. They were on clearance for $704.98, which I thought was a good deal since they were $1,400 or something normally. Then the manager told me that they wanted to get rid of them and they were 50% off the clearance price! I told him, "let's load them up " $352.00 each. BTW, they are set up for the peddle system already, which according to the website are pretty damn expensive.

They don't have the peddle drive, I will have to purchase that separately. Does anyone have a peddle system kayak? Thoughts? Are they worth almost $1,400?

I'd love to have a pedal kayak, but all of them are $1200 and up. It's just what they cost and if I want one, that's the price and I'll just have to bite the bullet and get one.

I did a quick search on pedal drives only and the pricing is anywhere from $400 to $1300. I would ask the dealership you purchased it from, about the pricing. Even if you don't get the pedal drive, that's a great looking kayak and it should be easy to paddle around.

I had a pedal drive….great if you’re always in deep water but no good in shallow water. You can lift it up when you get to shallow water but it’ll take up a lot of space on top of the kayak and space is a premium on a yak. If you’re fishing a lot of deep water and you want to fight the tide or have a great distance to travel, then the pedal drive would be worth it. I guess it depends on what type of fishing you plan on doing. @Stressless fishes a lot with a kayak, maybe he’ll offer some advice.

* if you fish larger water bodies
* if you are trying to fish small structures
* if you use your hands to fish

My take is watch for a resale on a peddle yak. Many folks get them and then figure out its a lot of work. Put them up for sale loaded with expensive stuff, don't use them for a year or more and post 'em for 50% less then new.

Buddy just got out of the slammer and picked up this Pro Angler three weeks ago for much less than 1/2 price of a new one. The gear is worth about $1500.

No question peddles are better for fishing, paddles work okay, but no comparison to the efficiency of peddles for fishing. Been using both peddles and paddles for 20+ years can't really go wrong with either- enjoy!!

Paint creek would be a hell of a place to get them wet and shake a few hands. I already know what your wife would say!!!
