Tire update: Nokian Outpost nAT tires

The overview below is exactly what I have found to be true with these tires. I would add that the colder the temp the better they are. Still snowing here and temps between 15 and -5 every day. Not selling you on these but for me they are a solid A rated tire!

The Nokian Outpost nAT is a premium all-terrain tire designed for year-round, severe-weather capability (3PMSF rated) and high durability with Aramid-reinforced sidewalls. Compared to competitors like the Falken Wildpeak AT4W or Toyo Open Country AT3, it offers a quieter, more comfortable ride with superior winter performance while maintaining strong off-road traction in mud and snow.
Key Comparisons with Other All-Terrain Tires:
  • vs. Falken Wildpeak AT4W: The Outpost nAT is generally quieter on-road. While both are aggressive, the Falken AT4W is sometimes considered more of a "heavy-duty" option for towing, whereas the Nokian excels in balancing on-road comfort with off-road, rugged performance.
  • vs. Toyo Open Country AT3: The Toyo is widely regarded as a versatile, long-lasting, and established AT tire. However, the Nokian Outpost nAT holds an edge in extreme winter conditions and offers higher durability with its Aramid-infused sidewalls (Pothole Protection).
  • vs. BFGoodrich KO3: Both are high-end options, but the Outpost nAT focuses heavily on all-weather, all-season performance (specifically slush and ice) while featuring a specialized, cut-resistant tread.
Key Strengths of the Nokian Outpost nAT:
  • Superior Winter Performance: 3-Peak Mountain Snowflake (3PMSF) rating for severe snow.
  • Durability: Aramid Shield technology resists damage from rocks and potholes.
  • Comfort & Quiet: Known for being surprisingly quiet and smooth for an aggressive AT tire.
  • Tread Design: Features a "North American Thread" (nAT) designed to handle diverse terrain, including mud, sand, and gravel.
  • Tread Wear Indicators: Includes a percentage indicator to easily monitor wear.
Best Use Cases:
The Outpost nAT is ideal for drivers who need a daily driver that is comfortable on the highway but has the ruggedness for consistent, demanding off-road trips and severe winter conditions.

My max towing is around 5,000 to 6,000 pounds. If I were hauling heavier and/or more often, I would have gone a different way. If your niche is mostly highway/on road with some off road and you face winter like here in NW Pa this is a superior choice. Probably a good plow tire as well. If you are off road and always in mud/rocks? I can't speak to that. I can say that these will roll in very deep snow where you are pushing it with your bumper and grill though.

That might change this weekend….
9" snow. Didn't use 4x4 much at all. Only on gravel parking lots where I have to back drag the snow and back over the piles. Or back dragging truck docks and back over piles. Cleaning up an entrance after municipalities dumped snow from the streets. . . 50/50. Didn't need 4x4 much considering the snow. Just reach down and pull it in for 20' or so and back into 2wd.
