How high is the water momma, she said it’s 3 feet high and rising. Looks like a cooking day. Ain’t crossing my gate bridge without a boat and walking.

Went to go deer hunt the property. Walked down to the gate and found this. Well shit I can’t post the pic. Saying file too large wtf? Anyway it would’ve been questionable but probably could’ve made it. It’s going down I could see where the water fell on the trees about 1.5”. I will cross it in the morning since it’s supposed to be 38 in the morning.

Stupid ass iPhone and their giant photos that have to be compressed. 😅 Screenshot it then post it.

My cam in Vicksburg has been blowing up. You can tell a cold snap happened by the amount of movement so hopefully you get another look at lucky.

No joe, actually djs is here could’ve used his. I’m not that mad so in the morning it will be. My cams blew up at 4:30 pm till half hour after dark. I imagine 95% deer was on the field by that time and not on me. I will sit the middle stand since all the does and fawns are bedding close to the field. Looking for an old 8pt or just enjoy the hunt. I don’t know what changed on my photos where it had too big of a file but I did screen shot the pic and it worked thanks. You taking the boys this weekend? Should be good.

Debating. I've backed myself in a corner. My youngest went up with me last weekend to fill the feeder and put out a camera. There's a good fork horn coming in that would be good. He's 6 and excited to hunt, I just don't think he's "ready" to actually shoot one yet. It personally wouldn't bother him to shoot one, it's not going to break his heart and make him sad or anything. But that's somewhat the problem also. He doesn't grasp the whole circle of life part yet, that an animal died to feed us, and that deserves respect. To him, it just seems fun to shoot one. I could take the opportunity and take him with me and I can shoot it and try to teach him some of that. But I would rather my oldest shoot it as that would be a PB for him after a spike two years ago and a button buck last year. When he was his younger brother's age he understood it. He understood the animal died to feed us, and had a little heart about it, that's how I decided he was mature enough to do it, face the weight of that, and process it. He walked around like he was 10 feet tall after we had dinner and he knew he put food on the table and provided for the family. My youngest just wants to shoot one because it sounds fun. 🤣 On one hand it's awesome that he has that interest and desire, on the other I just need to see a little more maturity out of him.

So I've sort of backed myself in a corner. Let the younger one shoot one because it's "fun" and he was the one that "put in the work".. Or take my oldest to shoot his PB and have my youngest feel like he got screwed.

Take them both and kill two. You might be overthinking the situation. In the big picture you want them to love and respect the outdoors like we do. You have to start somewhere. Let him kill the first deer that shows up and let the oldest decide if the deer is the one he wants or wait for something bigger. Personally I think trophy hunting shouldn’t be part of the hunt w young kids. That hardship should come later 😂. Being an outdoorsman, seeing a dead deer killed from a gun gives the kids a great perspective of what a gun can and will do. You will never have to worry if your boys pick up a gun alone. Talk about there is no second chances or taking the bullet back. Also respect for the game we are killing. It’s up to you, but I wouldn’t focus on size right now, that drive will come later when they are ready.

Agreed. Didn't mean for it to come across like a trophy situation. More like I know the oldest is going to be pissed that his little brother shot a bigger deer than him, and I know it would mean more to him than it would the youngest who just wants to shoot one because it seems fun. As for taking them both, ha, a 6 and 8 year old in the same blind together with a feeder at 30 yards, we'd have better luck killing a deer in a chuck-e-cheese ball pit. 🤣 But, either way, we'd have a good time hunting and it doesn't really matter if we kill one or not. You raise a damn good point though, there are plenty of lessons regarding guns, empathy, and respect for life that can be taught more effectively standing over a dead animal than can likely be grasped before.

I know what you mean about one shooting a bigger one than the other. We know life isn’t fair. I do know that failure creates drive and determination. You’re gonna have the same problem I still have with my two boys, it’s a battle and competition everyday. You raise them the same but they will be polar opposites. Your best moments in life are coming up so enjoy the ride.

Currently in the bling looking over the big ag field. This morning I hunted the middle stand and seen 4 does for the hunt. As daylight was almost breaking I kept hearing a weird noise along w a house that’s half mile away roosters. Opened my window and it was a Turkey gobbling. Been here since 07 and never got a pic of a Turkey or seen any. I did one time in September I had two hens on turnrow as I was cutting. Hope it’s not a pen Turkey.

My Cajun buddy’s text me around 9 and asked if I could bring pearl to track. I said yes but told him around lunch time since they had blood for 40 yards then nothing, and none on the other….both were pass thrus. 4 of us headed to one tree and no blood. Pearl was hitting on something but was erratic. She ended up finding the deer and was still alive. The hunter cuts its throat. We went to the second tree were there was 40 yards of blood and Pearl followed it then began to cast some. I asked were was last heard and he replied 100 yards in the palmettos going right. Told them to look for my blood as I took Pearl deeper in and she found that one. Pearl is not a great tracker but can get the job done most times.
