Lots of blood at the shot site and a heavy blood trail going into the woods a few yards from that. Stepped in the woods, saw a deer laying down and it jumped up. Then saw two other white tails go up so I’m backing out for an hour. Pretty sure the deer I shot is dead but the way that one jumped up and the others hanging out I’m going to wait a bit.

Any luck?

Wow, super windy! Heard very little shooting today compared to normal. Holding down my ground blind today. Glad I decided against the climber. Saw a mommy with little doe tagging along. Holding out. Good luck all!

Called it a morning and back at the house now. First shot was 6:50 and I can tell you that it was not even close to being bright enough to see more then 10 yards with the overcast. Heard a few shots just before I got down. Nothing moved in my little patch this morning.

Walking out I ran into a guy hunting the neighbors property that I have been told the last 4-5 years nobody was allowed to gun hunt but the grandson and great grandkid's. Guess when you know the landowner has gone back to Florida for the winter you can just do whatever you want on his property.

Windy as hell here now and didn't want to risk trees and branches falling on me. Ain't a deer alive worth the risk. There will be better days ahead.

3 does from earlier came back with 2 more. Less doe spooked twice in the same spot, but I can't tell what caused it. She was upwind of me if that's even possible today. A while ago, I had leaves blowing from my 9 with the wind, leaves blowing in from my 3 "into" the wind and they all met in the middle to form a leaf tornado. SMH 🤔

Dan and I are out today. He’s seen 3 Does and I saw one small buck. We both could of had meat. We’re after button bucks or big bucks. No deer harmed thus far. Mighty fine weather for our opener. Closest shot so far was about a mile away. Zero hunting pressure today. Time to go fly my kite.

Switched it up and hit the blind behind the house. I was cold, wet and tired from my walkabout earlier. Dried out a little on the backroads that took me home. Grabbed my little heater and made the 100 yard walk. This is one of those "you just never know" spots. You can get skunked or kill a 160. Seen both happen. I've been coming back for 14 years waiting for the later to happen again!
