Pulled into my parking spot just as the first rain drops started to fall. Think I'll sit here for a minute and see what happens.

Does it still count as being out on opening day if I just sit in the truck and watch?

Well... first day, first fuck up... just realized I forgot to take off the field points and put on broad heads. Hope a boomer doesn't come through.

Bumped a fork horn that was bedded along the edge of the bean field on the way in

Wind is 180 from predicted, lightening all around, I gotta poop already, and I still don't have any stands hung here, so I'm just sitting in a chair next to a tree...

But, I'm out and I kept with tradition! I'm only hunting until 9 and the only way I release an arrow is if Mr. Gnarly gives me a chip shot. I'm in a good spot to get some action as they filter through the oaks going back to bed. I'm hunting a cross wind, so I need thermals and it better not shift straight S or I'm screwed.

Was in stand about 5:40. I think I had a target buck under me but to dark to tell. Il pull a card on the way out to verify. Temp just dropped about 5 degrees in 5 seconds so I'd say there is a front coming in. Good luck boys.

Took the back way into a public spot and wouldn't you know it, someone was already there at 5:15. He will see a deer this morning I guarantee it.

So I moved south a couple hundred yards to a funnel that has some acorns dropping. Hang and hunt setup this morning. So far so good. I brought the thermacell but I still think I'm gonna need a blood transfusion when I get home.

Wind just went from still to 15-20 and the temp dropped 10 degrees or better. All in 2 minutes. Wind is swirling like crazy on the ground and I'll get bursts of air that feel like I opened the fridge, then and immediate backdraft that feels like a hair dryer. Crazy.

More of a practice run than anything today with the new hang and hunt setup. Not expecting much especially since my new buddy here won’t leave my side. He literally followed me all the way in from the truck I kinda wanna take him home now

Heard something behind me and turned around to see a funky looking spike at 10 steps. One side was injured during velvet and droops over his left eye. We locked eyes and he slowly backed up and slipped back out. Cool encounter in the first hour of opening day!

Nothing but a skunk and a grinner for me. Haven’t got the bubble guts yet so chalking this one up as a win

Took my first true "cold shot" of the year. Cut some hair off a fox squirrel's back at 19 yards.
