LIVE from the stand 2020-21

Didn’t hunt this afternoon till dark, got lots of yard work done and fortified my firewood pile.
Had a nice 2.5+ old 8 point come up to decoy and posture and basically plowed an existing scrape nearby(25-28 yards from me and same from deke). Took some video and stills with my phone. Here’s a still right after he hit the scrape very aggressively.

I’m in without a plan. Tyler shot the resident boss. We have another on cam that might score higher but have no stand in the only area we have gotten him and no good trees there. Just had 2 come from opposite sides of me and meet behind me in the dark. Not sure where they went.

Neighbor just fired up his sawmill 200 yards away. I will think positive that since he is blocking that saddle it will force the deer to me.

Hunting mom's today. Lots of eyes on the walk in. Have had 4 or 5 doe in and out since. No horns yet. Currently, I have one of the smallest doe fawns I've ever seen bedded about 15 yards to my left.

Got in the stand a little late (basically only a few before shooting light). On the walk in i used my thermal and could see deer in the woods to my left a I'm sitting now and two feeding on the crop strips past that.

This stand is nicely situated. Almost anything cruising from the different stands of woods should be at least seen and it overlooks a prime movement corridor. So if it's on this side of the farm and moving i should see it. Downsides are the damn cows that are grazing in the same area. I'm in a stand of shagbark hickory and oaks so the squirrels are unreal.

I've seen one cat, cows and countless squirrels and birds, that's it.

Is it the weather? early lockdown (Ashland cty)? this is only my second year attempting bow hunting and hunting the rut so i don't have a good baseline on what to expect.

It’s a little bit of all that and the heat. They have their winter coats on and can’t take them off. But the next hollow over could have action all morning long. A lot of luck is needed during the rut. The right doe can turn a boring sit into the hunt of a lifetime.

Action has been slow, but steady. Maybe 10 total. Had most in bow range including one ugly fucker.
