Had a pretty damn big buck cruising the north side of the field to my north. Could see his antlers 175-200yds away. I did two loud grunts and crashed the antlers together. He turned and started running across the field straight to me. I quickly stood up and grabbed my bow. He was 60 yds heading south past me to get down wind. He finally got down wind at 40 yds. He stood there a bit licking his nose then started browsing for a few minutes. He never got spooky but slowly wandered off back from the way he came. I’d imagine he was a little apprehensive since there wasn’t any deer here to make all that commotion. Still have 1.5+ hours to go, but damn what a rush. Had he stepped into a better opening I would’ve let er fly. Dang. Got a couple shitty pics.

Wind was 180 from forecasted here. I had to bail after getting the stand hung. Had a fresh scrape with piss still in it at 25 yards and the wind was blowing right at it. Happy with the hang, but not the wind. Came back up to the cornfield and it's squirrely here too. I gave up and came to the blind in hopes of containing my scent. Very limited shooting, but I have a scrape at 40 and if he didn't find a girlfriend and bedded down, he's close by and I bet he checks this food plot when he does go for a walk. It'll take a miracle to get it done tonight at this point.

Sorry in advance for writing a novel!!
Had an eventful weekend last weekend on public, been busy and haven’t got a chance to post about it. Took my cousin with me for his first ever Ohio hunt. First time on this public this season. Sent him out the oak ridge I hunted last season with his climber and I decided to still hunt my way into a ravine that was loaded with sign last season. I had been avoiding this place because there’s very limited cell service and I’m usually by myself. So I wanted to still hunt in order to scout and then do a hang and hunt in the evening. About 2 hours in, As I’m looking around glassing, i see a dead deer on opposite hillside. Walked over and it was a good 2year old 6 that had a hole in it from an arrow looked and felt about two days old. As I’m looking at this deer taking pictures, I hear leaves crunch. Look that way and the biggest buck this PA boy has ever seen alive in person (150-160 class 10 point) strolls slowly, with a front right shoulder limp, past me at 60 yards. I snort wheezed and he turned and want other way. Found that strange as I was positive he never saw me. Tried rattling and saw two does but never any more bucks. So was almost the time my cousin and I agreed to meet back at the truck (again no cell service this whole time.) so I stared heading back. Soon as I get service, phone blows up. “Dude I just shot a MONSTER but I don’t think I hit him good.” Welllllll long story short…. it was the same buck I saw, explaining his shyness and the limp. Turns out he hit the shoulder bone and only got 2-3 inches of penetration max. Was at a hard quartering away angle and may have moved slightly when he shot. We Caught back up to him several times and confirmed a non fatal hit and he will live. Was already hitting scrapes less than an hour after being shot. I feel sick for my cousin, but he doesn’t have a lot of experience to go off, was caught off guard, and ultimately made a poor choice due to his excitement. Hopefully we get another chance! I was going to drive back out for Monday afternoon but my legs were cramping and killing me so opted not to. And of course my #1 buck showed up at 4:30 in the afternoon at my tree….. Saturday and Sunday this weekend are HOPEFULLY for redemption! Time will tell.
Good luck TOOers!!

5 more deer starting just around 6 and I'm currently stuck in the tree waiting on them to leave the area. All within 25yrds, including a decent buck, not sure which one, and I will be pulling SD card from TC before I walk out.

Now I'm hearing clashing antlers as I'm typing this up, so, that makes at least one more deer since I started typing this post.

I have no idea how long I'll be stuck in this tree. It may be a while.

Okay, my evening included at least 8 deer altogether. Another great hunt today and no deer were harmed. I think it amounts to 14 total deer for the day with I think, 4 antlered and the rest antlerless for the day.

I made it to the truck about 10-til-8.

This was the buck that was in front of me at the last minute. Took forever for him to get out in front of me. I heard him comin from the woods directly behind about 20 minutes earlier, but I couldn't see him cause I'm above most all of the tree canopy, such as those little saplings.

Pulled SD card from TC before walking out. This him this evening. He broke a tine.

Anyhow, more deer showed up after these four, right after quittin time. I heard antlers clinking.

They all headed South shorttly afterwards towards the massive fresh picked cornfield in the neighboring property.

I did see two more deer near my pickup as well when I turned corner of the field finger headed to the truck.

The beanfield is my easiest way out when I have no deer in it.

Back at it again tomorrow. I'm trying to make it happen on camera at this property.

Got out late but better than nothing. Butt in seat by 4:00. Sat over corn pile. A couple of groups of does with no bucks harassing. Then 2 year old buck came to corn. Ate for a bit then noticed a lone doe trying to come into corn. Ate for a few more minutes then proceeded to harass her for about 30 minutes. She was having none of it. Reminded me of me trying to get frisky with the wife after a night of hitting the bourbon. Week of rutcation starts tomorrow but doesn’t feel like things are in full swing here yet. We’ll see what the week brings. With highs in the low 60s next week guessing mornings will be best.

Crazy day. 19 total. I don’t think I had any doubles… I think by last light I was at 9 antlered. Getting down from the tree I also heard a snort wheeze at the edge of the swamp, unsure of which buck it was. WIND WAS TERRIBLE! But it didn’t seem to matter… Every buck I saw tonight was chasing hard. I watched a deer get bred under 35 yards which was incredible to see! Young 6 or 7 point had his with with an ol nanny! Had a low to mid 130s 8 or 9pt come through at 42 yards along the edge of a bench along the swamp slowly harassing a really young fawn. She would moved fifteen yards he would move two. He browsed while she browsed as they moved together in tandem. Never presented a shot. Tomorrow, same tree, but all day without a move. We shall see what happens

On our way back to the woods from lunch we got hit by a buck. We were coming down river road and next thing we know a buck jumps over the guard rail right into the side of the car. We didn't kill him but he stood in the field for a bit. He looked to be a good 4 year old ten.
He's just giving you "some time"..... he's probably not gonna sleep all night, and he'll be out first light tracking you. Watch your six man. He made a "bad shot" so he'll be tracking you tomorrow to try to finish the job. Drive someone else's car just in case.....

So I ended my hunt last night with that mega wide buck I posted pics of, as well as another shooter 10 at last light. He didn’t close the distance in time, and even if he had it probably would’ve been too dark for me to take an ethical shot. Hoping to get back out Saturday evening, if not it’ll be an all day sit Monday. More than likely I’ll take my saddle and sit in a different tree with better cover and better angle from where I think the deer will approach. Very limited on trees on this property considering they’re all telephone poles that have virtually no cover whatsoever.

Half hour boat ride, then tip toeing into the thicket 20 yards and up the tree. Deer around me in here the whole time I’m setting up. Hopefully this pays off. My wind isn’t perfect but it’s worth risking it on a frosty morning such as this leading into the weekend. Good luck everyone getting out today.
