I should just stay home on the Sunday before gun season. The eastern seaboard invasion is on and our local gas station is flooded with trucks from MD, NJ, PA, and WV. Was only there 5 minutes and counted 11 NR hunters...
I told my neighbor we should take all the vehicles and surround a public spot I'd like to hunt. Make people think the place was packed and have it to ourselves🤣

Lol, also, I was going to go out to one of my blinds, but I looked at my truck & I have a flat, so that deflated any enthusiasm I had.

Literally saw one skunk and one hen. That is all. My enthusiasm for this season has been drained since November 15th. Two target bucks, both shot on neighboring properties this year, by Amish…. Neither recovered. Gonna give it a whirl in the morning. Couple bucks are still around that I would be happy with to shoot but odds are I’m going to be filling freezer with does annd fawns until febuary by myself and with the kids!

11/27/22 - GUN OPENER SETUP & EVENING's ARCHERY HUNT

Today’s hunt is preparation of gun season opener/week. Earlier this afternoon, after I took care of my daily chores, I grabbed the deer rifle, range table, rangefinder, bag of ammo and got setup at 100yrds, to check the zero on the scope. Well, I shot one round down range, and it hit just low right, about an inch, inch in a half away from hitting the red bullseye, and then it knocked the entire steel target gallery set right on over. I had to re-erect the target set/gallery afterwards and I didn’t feel the need to shoot anymore after that impressive performance. Mind you, there are two half inch thick AR500 steel plates that hang on this range target set, one 10” and the other an 8”. The one I shot at was the 8” plate, plus add the five, four foot long, one and a quarter inch diameter, steel galvanized pipe, two solid steel 8” hangers and two 24” heavy duty, large steel chains with pair of D-rings attached, while all the while the legs were settled well into the moist, wet soft earth. Add it all up and that’s some serious restriction on that single round that knocked over that entire target set, much like my last season’s gun buck. Anyhow, I was thrilled that the rifle did it’s thing and I didn’t have to do anything to it, which was what I expected. Then, I put the rifle & ammo away, loaded up the pickup truck with all that I needed to setup my gun season hunting setup. My new Barronett Woodland blind, now the second one that I own because I really like them, grabbed the ALPS Outdoorz chair, the ‘BIG BOG’ tripod, a couple of huntin totes, the toboggan and bow, and then took off for the other farm, but first, I needed some fuel, which I tell ya, the cost of diesel these days is absolutely absurd! IDK how truckers and farmers are doin it? Anyways, I got to the property @3:10PM. Loaded up the toboggan with everything I needed, didn’t bother changing into any of my huntin clothes, just threw on the huntin jacket, a camo ball cap and the Muck boots, then hiked the approximate 400 plus yards to the spot I usually hunt every year now with rifles or muzzleloaders, which is just within the cornfield wooded finger area, which is the beginning of one of the deep ravines on the property that goes clear down to a creek bottom. This spot allows me to pretty much cover half of the entire picked cornfield on this side of the property. Once I reached the known little Cedar Tree, the tree and the rest of the immediate area all around it had fresh deer signs, such as the nice tree rub and a couple of nice size deer beds, now just outside the blind. Yes, I got everything all setup and began my archery hunt by 4:15PM. The weather condition was horrible. Super blustery strong winds coming from the west, behind the blind, and I didn’t see any deer until the very last bit of daylight, which were three antlerless deer. Each of them stayed just inside the wooded area, although, occasionally the smallest one would step out into the cornfield, but always looking back towards the others in between whatever nibbles of corn found within the field. And that was it, but at least I’m now good and ready for tomorrow’s ‘2022 Whitetail Deer Gun Season’ opener! Totally looking forward to it too!
