Very little shooting on public close to home, and very little at Vinton Furnace. But holy shit are there a bunch of people here. There were 9 campers on the private ground right by the entrance we used for the muzzy hunt. Another dozen trucks from there to the gate 2 miles down the road. Beautiful woods here, but not much sign.

Half dozen shots throughout the morning. 2 were from me.

One is for my brother and one’s for a buddy. Neither can hunt this season so I’ll add a little to their freezers. Button bucks are pussies!
Again, if you on the fence about getting a sled for dragging deer out? Do it, I drug them both out with very little effort, except for one hill. It was a little steep 😂

Down south for our annual deer camp. Down here with my dad, Nate and my buddy Eli. We did some scouting yesterday and it paid off for me in the first hour or so. Eli and Nate saw nothing, my dad saw a young doe and small buck but no shot at the doe. Had my doe drug out and took an hour nap before Eli and Nate walked out. Grabbed lunch and heading back in. Burned my public land doe tag so I’ll just stumble around with one of them and film this afternoon. #facknate View attachment 202491View attachment 202492

So i couldn't hardly believe this but it's shit I cant make up ... i went back around 130 to find a button buck that somehow didn't have spots laying 10 yards from my stand. The guy came out of the blind to tell me how if I would've waited 20 more minutes before I left the first time in could've had it. I asked where he shot it and he didn't even hesitate to say right by my stand. So I shook my head and said I'll just go farther down on the property I was hunting so we wouldn't be on top of each other. He said "nah don't do that get in your stand were about to do some more drives ". He then continued to tell me all the best spots to hunt on the side I'm hunting .

I just walked away and climbed in my stand hoping they would do their little drive and be gone and I'd be alone for the evening. I couldn't have been any more wrong... as soon as I got in my stand I seen 3 more guys lined up on the property line . Then I seen their drivers clear back in the property I'm hunting that they're not supposed to be on. I tried calling the owner but the call wouldn't go through, next thing I know it's WW3 again. They pushed two tiny does and a little 4 point past my stand , I just put my head down because I knew what was going to happen sure enough as soon as they passed my clearing it was a volley of shots.

Now I'm pissed. I stood up to get down and they kicked a decent sized doe off their side that ran an stopped under my tree. I wasn't looking to shoot a doe today but figured screw it better me taking it out then them flinging more lead so nailed a perfect heart shot she only went about 20 yards or so.

Just when I think it's over that little 4 point came running back over to my side and just stood there squatting with blood running down its ass and back legs. Now I'm instant pissed again. I raised my gun up to put it out of it's suffering and that crazy ass woman behind me shot from her side of the line right under my stand and wounded it again. At this point one of the guys comes running up and just stands next to it with his shotgun as it still has its front end up gagging. He went to step torwards it and it took off about 80 yards. I pulled up put the crosshairs on it and let one go . You could tell they were pissed . I said " I'm not taking it from you but i cant let an animal suffer like that" now I'm surrounded by 8 hillbillies with guns. I said " if I were you I'd get all these deer out of here before the landowner gets here he's gonna be pissed" the response baffled me.. he said " nah I talked to them before all they do is bowhunt so we're not hurting anything" . Then they continued to go over and try to run deer out of the property that the Village owns.

I've never field dressed a deer so fast and ran that far to get my truck in my life . I flew back down to the woods got my sled and got it loaded. As I was getting in my truck they were on their way back with a skid steer picking up all their shot up mangled deer. Called the owner on the way out and explained everything and he's going to talk to the authorities .

If I find somewhere else to go this week I might but I doubt it. All today did was confirm the reasons I should've gave it up like I planned on doing. This is officially the worst hunting season I've ever had in the deer woods and it lasted one day. People suck lol

Sorry for the long rant , congrats to those that connected today and good luck to those still at it.

I sent the pics to the landowner , your right i should have called odnr . My first call when I got service was to the landowner and he said he's calling them so either way they're still getting called. Reason I called him first was as I was heading to the truck I seen his boy in the side by side across the river looking for the guys already . Apparently another guy hunting on their side seen them as well and tipped him off before I called. He has their names and address.

They do have a trail cam on the property line that provably caught 60 percent of what went down I can direct them to it.

I hate dealing with stuff like this especially being the hunter and not owner of the property, if some people weren't so Damn stupid it could all be avoided. It really does suck. Beautiful deep hardwoods in a river bottom. When the landowner sold the property that butts up to it this was the result. Truly sucks . I honestly feel for the landowner hes a hunter as well but works for the school and keeps the farm going thats 200 plus acres hard to keep it patrolled all the time especially as this 30 acre piece is only accessible on his side by crossing the river. I lucked out that the Village let me park on their property to go in since I used to work for them

@Chancegriffis up near New Lexington this go around.

Nate, Eli and I stopped and had lunch and went back in. I went in with Nate to film and Eli went to where I hunted this am. Eli had no sightings. Nate and I didn’t see shit besides squirrels until 4:50ish. We both heard a deer stiff-legged walking in the bottom directly below us, and it sounded less than 50 yards. Naturally we were both standing up leaning against the tree we were tucked up against, when the deer we heard blew and she was ACTUALLY directly behind us 😂As soon as she blew Nate: “Uh ohh” and it was a struggle not to laugh. We had 0 expectations of deer coming from that direction. Nate slowly leaned over and grabbed his rifle, shouldered it and let her rip. I didn’t wanna move and plug my ears so my bell got rung, and didn’t get any video lol. I swung around and pulled up my binos and saw the flash of her white belly roll into a dead fall. High fives ensued and we got her gutted and drug half a mile back to the truck. Super fun hunting with good friends and making memories. Probably gonna sit with Eli in the am and take the camera again and hope he can catch one too. My dad missed a doe, and Scott didn’t see shit besides 40-50 Amish pushing deer.

Not private but I haven't tried public since I was a kid so I might scout some local tomorrow and try to find an overlooked spot. Also been years since I've walked around coshocton might give it a go. I feel like trucking around some tough public will relight my fire of the true grit of hunting that got me into this many moons ago instead of the sour taste private has given me. It would be cool as hell to be successful on public like some of these members on here do!

Well if that don’t pan out, you’re welcome to hunt my place this weekend. I’ll be down there Friday-Sunday. PM me if you need details. I just hate to see a member on here have that experience.
