You can use old carpet as well, or so I have heard. You could also visit your local Tractor Supply and see if they have a stash of the white foam blocks they are shipped with their trailers and farm implements. Greg and I snatched up a bunch from the store in Athens one time and it made a great target...

This worked well. Here is a video. Three shots. Second one a little deep, but they pulled out easily.

Heard they can be made with cardboard sandwiched together tightly. You would shoot into the corrugated ends of the boxes.
